    MPC#51 Found Faces (6/29-7/16)

Here is one that is going to be a bit different, abstract. We just finished portraits, but faces of people or animals are not what this is about This is inanimate "Faces" found in the natural and unnatural world.

Have your pics submitted by 7/16/2010.

A few examples of what I'm talking about

    RULES:
    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.
    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.
    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 photos to be voted on.
    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way, not an option.)
    5. In the event of a tie, the contest moderator will have the deciding vote.
    6. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.
    7. The winner has 3 days to start a new contest or 2nd place becomes the new winner.

Not an entry, but a poorly focused shot that I like.

Right on the money. Too old?

BTW, one of the reasons I picked this topic is so that some of our P/S and prosumer shooters could get in on the action and not feel outgunned...

Cool topic! I just had to walk to the post office and was looking all around for hidden faces. I'll bring the camera next time!

    No! lol!

I'll give folks some hints. It's all about framing the image. Rocks, trees and cars are a good place to start. And I bet everyone reading this not on a laptop or iphone has one within 10 feet of them. I just found two sitting here at my desk. Here's one of them, taken with my crappy work camera...

Once you get in the mindset, it isn't that hard. Channel your inner picasso...

Thanks for the motivation Lonnie - now I'm going to spend the rest of my day looking around my office funny.

Thanks for making the list of past contests links too. It's cool to be able to go back and look at some of the older stuff with one click.

    Just saw that. Great Idea.
What about starting a thread that just links all past MPCs and MPPCs and slapping a sticky on it? Somebody who's gonna stick around could start it and they could keep editing the first post periodically to add links.

Yeaah it was me. I haven't entered one of these in so long despite all the great topics, so I went for the easy shot. Honestly my photos not that creative though, I'd highly encourage anyone who thinks they can do a better job to use outlets too!

I think the real challenge will be to find something mundane with a face on it, and turn it into a good photograph. Something compelling.
Like maybe the outlet face along side the face of a 12 year old kid who just got the crap shocked out of him when he stuck a fork in it. That'd be cooool!
Or maybe an Andy Warhol interpretation?
I think Outabounds shot is a good example. That's got the markings of a nice photograph.

Portrait of crude oil that made its way from the depths of Mississippi Canyon in the Gulf of Mexico to the shores of Barataria Bay, Louisiana. Nasty Nasty Stuff.

It may not look so to you, but for some reason every time I look at this it reminds me of "Oscar the Grouch" or something from "Where the Wild Things Are". I wasn't going to post it as a face but I don't know if I'll have time to get another entry in.
