    MPC# 31: Bridges April 6th - April 18th

    MPC# 31: Bridges April 6th - April 18th

Alrighty, sorry 'bout the weird dates but here we go.
Hoping for a good turn out considering bridges are all over the place and great subjects. Anything with a bridge in it goes I suppose. As long as its the focus of the picture. Examples:

    The Rules:

    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.

    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.

    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 of the photos to put in a poll for the mags to vote on and decide the winner.

    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way not an option)

    5. In the event of a tie, the contest moderator will have the deciding vote.

    6. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.

    7. The winner has 3 days to start a new contest or 2nd place becomes the new winner.

and being in denver you should be able get some sweet bridge shots. for a town with very little water, there are a few cool bridges, like this one:

Thanks...i pretty much sped home trying to catch that cloud over the highlands bridge...had i been there about 5 minutes sooner the picture would've been a bit more properly exposed.

Also, one of my fav bridge shots i took about 3 weeks too early for this shindig, but a link for yer inspiration anyways... http://pa.photoshelter.com/image/I0000e.TpL96jJ8Q

Guitar bridge. Didn't turn out quite as how I wanted, but it was taken for the contest.

These don't count for the contest, as they're a few years old. Didn't make it out in time for this one

The railroad bridge that was knocked down in the flood last summer here is being replaced so I decided to go down there at sunset and try to get a capture. Below is a preface pic taken last summer.

Unfortunately nothing seemed to work with that bridge from the angles I wanted. Played around a little more and came up with these. Used manual focus which is a little difficult when it is nearly dark. Higher ISO were too grainy to use. Came up with a couple that I thought I'd post.

Had a hard time with the crop on this one. I almost liked it best uncropped, but then it was a little messy. Powerline sucks. You can see the railroad bridge in the foreground with the span on lookers left still missing and coffer damn in the river. Most of the water is coming throught that side which is what makes the nice round curl on the surface of the water.

It was really dark when I took this one. Camera on a rock on a sandbar w/eight second exposure at F2.8 ISO 100. I shot all of these shutter priority and I played around with the EV it till it opened the aperture all the way up. I know shit about photography but after this little outing it seems pretty clear that I need to start with a low ISO with night time lapse landscapes and work my way up from there if I can't get the shot without bumping up.
