    MPC #50 Portraits (June 9th-23rd)

I've chosen "Portraits" as the theme for the 50th MPC.

    From wiki
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.

    RULES:
    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.
    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.
    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 photos to be voted on.
    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way, not an option.)
    5. In the event of a tie, the contest moderator will have the deciding vote.
    6. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.
    7. The winner has 3 days to start a new contest or 2nd place becomes the new winner.

YES!!!! Finally a MPC I can participate in (due to baby related time constraints)
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Not eligible, but I really dig the way it turned out. I know most are thinking about pics of peeps, but with NO entries yet, I hope something here will get the ball rolling.

Well this pic is not eligible because it wasn't taken during the required dates, I guess it's really not a portrait anyways....and also I didn't take the pic. But it's pretty cool and has some grass blades in it really close and I liked the way it turned out and all the different focus stuff going on in it.

ignoring the FACE part of the definition i think the blade of grass was quite good. but if youre going by the definition than the awesome doggy pic also failed. but here, to make you happy:

I'm not sure here. I like your use of light and shaddow, and you really captured the emotion involved. The DOF is just about perfect However, I'd consider cropping in a little tighter. I don't think you're supposed to show the whole body in a portrait. Maybe even a run through PP and desaturate to really bring emphasis on the red........like a Gatorade add.

AND, love the tight crop on that chicks eyes. Are those your entries nihiles?

im not much of a crop or post guy but your suggestions with the desaturation is good. i can see that. just not my thing. but if you want to try pm me and ill link you the original.

You need to work on your sarcasm detection. Not to single anybody out, but why do so many of these contests start off with a bunch of 'not eligible' photos? The point of these contests is to get people out shooting, not to share stuff you shot 3 years ago that happen to fit the theme.

On that note, here is my totally eligible and taken specifically for this contest photo:

This is pure gold as an entry for a portrait contest.

    hhhhhhhhahahahhahaaah

Edit: not ripping on you sliced; I'm sure you see the comedy in it too.

To get people itchin to go shoot something similar, better, different, etc. Some days you gotta prime the pump to get some water.

I thought my comment of 'I didn't take this picture' took away any chance of anyone thinking I was serious.

Now I think I actually have a small chance of making top five.

I was ready to announce you winner and just move on to the next MPC. Ain't no way anyone around here was going to beat that shot... Then you had to break the news that it was ineligible.

Does it have to be of a person? If not:

If so, I probably won't have any time to shoot before the limit's up.

Shot with my "walk around" lens 24-70 F2.8. Shot at 2.8, I can't go any lower with that setup...

I'm no pro but I like the DOF on lonnie's shot. If you go all extreme I think it takes away from the shot. This is enough to draw your eye to the subject, but not enough to to look unnatural.
