Damn, that’s beautiful. Just moved to San Diego and have been craving some real mountains. Need to get out there. Where are you based Evan? Any chance you have suggestions farther south?

Mt. San Jacinto, San Gabriel's, and San Bernardino's ain't too far away.

The bulk of my training was in either the Lagunas or Santa Anas, and I did okay.

I'm in Carson City. I haven't done much south of Whitney, but you can take a look at Evdog's TRs, especially the Orogenesis Project. He's been (re)discovering lots of amazing stuff on the south end of the Sierra.

I’ve been eyeing San juancinto peak, looks like a nice lollipop loop. Thanks for those suggestions, I’ll definitely take a look. Seems like you can get into some pretty decent mountains within 2-3 hours

Yo, Peachy, just remembered that the Mt. Laguna Trail Marathon is coming up in November. Great way to learn some of the local trails and meet some k00l, local trail-running folks.

I've also heard there's a pretty good trail running community in SD. Might be worth checking out.

Gorgeous, Dan. Hoping to be back in UT in a few weeks and hopefully can get a run in. I've been cleared medically from my heart attack, so I'm itching to get back on the trail. We have a stretch of 70* coming here in Seattle for next weekend.

BTW saw this on Twitter today. Kind of insane.

Congrats on the heart, that's big. My FIL ran every day for over 30 or 35 years, except for maybe 3 days due to surgeries, until he had the big one. it wasn't easy for him to get back on the horse, but he is much older than us.

Yeah, that's nuts. Reverse WURL is some hardcore shit. I can't imagine downclimbing the Monte Cristo crux after 20+ miles and >15k. Some of the final scrambling into Ferguson has to be sketch AF as a downclimb, too.

DTM those colors are insane! Amazingly beautiful.

Had to miss out on a lot of alpine running this summer due to nursing an injury and (trying) to build back up smartly. Finally got out on a good loop Sunday. We got lucky with weather ( minimal wind ) and colors. Nice to get up high. Itching to get back a lot more next year I hope.

Out trail running this morning on one of the most perfect days of fall so far and I took a hudge digger after I caught a toe on a root. Went right over the handlebars and down. I got a couple little scrapes that were no big deal but my left big toe is fuct. First time in 10 years of trail running that I had to call my wife to come get me as I was almost an hour from home, nearly at my turnaround point, when it happened. Thankfully I was only about half a mile from a road so I didn't have too far to go to wait for the sag wagon.

Knock on wood, I’ve taken harder falls in the last few years running than mountain biking. One of the worst feelings, those falls seem to last forever after the initial toe stub. Hopefully no damage done after your trip?

I didn't need trail shoes but I got a pair of Kinvaras for my occasional road running. Have had 5+ pairs of various Kinvara versions over the years. Thanks, phatty!
