Thanks stapes! I too am nervous, it’s early season and I’ve heard the conditions can be, well, interesting. Anxious to get some higher elevation runs going before June.
Nice work on the consistency wpk, keep posting your streaks!

I’ve never heard of a bone stress either, that’s frustrating.
Losing a full ski season is a nightmare. Hope the recovery goes smoothly for the summer season at least.
SJS looks great, congrats on getting in. I’d love to do a run down there at some point.
I’m trying Wasatch again in September, after dropping out about halfway last year due to blisters (and maybe more importantly I was in the middle a month-long illness that pretty much destroyed me). That was my first drop, wanted a rematch. Anyone else running it?
Zero consistency here, but I managed to get to the river and back to the south rim of Grand Canyon today. Not bad for my 3rd run in like 5 weeks.
19.28 mi, 5128' gain, 5:15 total time.
I went down the Kaibab to the river, then back up it to Tonto. Tonto (best part of the whole loop!) to Bright Angel and up. The last couple of miles were pretty rough, but 800mg of Vit I got me (and my shit ITB) through. I ate 450g of sugar (in about 3L of water), a Pop Tart, and a Nutter Butter.

Nice! The upside down mountain is not to be trifled with. Doing the descents first is so much harder.
Nice climberevan! GC is on my bucket list runs.
Damn pics still broke?
Pics?

Nice work! I'm hoping to get clearance to start running again the first week of May (broke my tibial plateau first week of January). R2R2R was my goal for mid October and my PT told me not to give up on it yet. Seeing this helps give me some motivation to build my strength back quick and be even more consistent with my PT exercises!

Well, I paid heavily for that upside down mountain run. The DOMS was the worst I've ever experienced by a solid margin. Plus I aggravated my meniscus and couldn't run for over a week.
I'm back on track now with a very comfortable and enjoyable 8.5 mib on my local trails today. I obtained a copy of "Sierra Trail Runs", which is good inspiration to train.

Finally able to get out on trails after missing the ski season with a broken leg/knee. My recovery is ahead of schedule and was given full return to sport after just 4 months. My legs have lost a lot of strength from being non-weight bearing for 6 weeks, but PT has been helping build it back.
Got out for a route up Tiger Mountain. 7mi and 2700k. Took a less steep route down the build up my base. Knee felt solid and no pain (other than soreness).
I haven't given up on my goal of R2R2R in mid October. We'll see how my training progresses. Just happy to be back out again. Stoked to be ready for the summer season.

Nice work Phatty. I need to get out and do some Tiger laps.</p>
Glad to hear you're doing so well, looks great.
Yea phatty! Nice to see you’re back out there. Always so nice to be back on the trails.

Thanks everyone. Very happy to be back. Was out with a buddy yesterday and we started scheming up some big runs for later in the summer. Now I just need the snow to start melting in the high country.

Stapes that frosty mountaintop looks amazing! And congrats phatty on getting back at it.
Have a running buddy who has done this run maybe the past 5 years on Memorial Day. Lyons CO to Estes Park. About exactly a 50k and around 6.5-7k vertical. I’d estimate 95-99% dirt, consisting of approximately 50/50 singletrack and dirt road/FSR. I was finally in town this holiday weekend and was able to join. Been wanting to get this done. Pace was very casual, jog the flats/downs and hike the ups ( and some of the flats), and I felt good after which is always a plus. Only 3 of us (forecast probably kept a lot away), which meant stops were minimal and quick. We only filtered water once.
We lucked out on weather and it ended up being about perfect. Cool, cloudy and foggy. Moody atmosphere. Then of course we finally got the storms and hail that had been forecast, but at least that held off until maybe mile 27-28. And no electricity/lightning due to the cool temps. But many years a lot of the route can be exposed, hot and dry. We all were digging the weather.
5:30am start in Lyons…
Socked in…
Some stretches of sweet sweet singletrack…
Moved through an area with some major thinning work going on…
Cont….
More singletrack goodness…
Then the hail came…
Good times!!! Great way to kick off summer season. Ready for the high country!
Well played, sir
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.
Sick!
Solid! Self supported 50k gets into the hard to carry enough food range for me. What was your fueling strategy?

Awesome man.
Weird thing to complain about but being in SoCal where everyday is between 65 and 85. I’m craving some weather. I miss those spring days of 4 seasons in one day

Used Salomon vest w/ hydration bladder full of water. 2 flasks w/ Tailwind. Carried empty filter flask and filled it once. I think I had some water left in the bladder when I finished. The cool temps helped with water consumption.
Don’t remember exactly what I ate, I meant to take a pic of all my empty wrappers, but it consisted of:
Honey Stinger chews
Skratch chews
Precision Fuel chews
Precision Fuel gels (used the big 90g ones w/ twist top. Love these for longer runs)
PBJ sandwich
Handful of trail mix and some chicharonnes my buddy brought
I actually carried way more food/nutrition than I ended up needing. Pack was pretty full and I had plenty leftover.
Hey The Dude- good luck at SJS next weekend! Enjoy it!
High country is opening up…
