I received this for Christmas and was pretty psyched about it following my first run today. I do *not* have the special Nike+ shoes (which I've heard, aren't very good running shoes) but read that you can stick the pod in a "shoe wallet" and it works just fine. That was my experience... I did my normal loop here which I've mapped out on http://www.usatf.org/routes/ and found the distance to be pretty accurate. I didn't do much playing with it yet, but the out-of-the box ease was key.
Take away message? If you run with your i-pod... get this.. it is so cheap that it just makes sense... AND don't worry about the shoes. Get a little shoe wallet, and you're golden.
