Yo, anyone else watching Fall of the House of Usher? Just finished episode 2, I’ve never seen anything like that ending. It was truly horrific and I totally loved it! Thumbs up.
Star Wars nerds will love Mark Hamill as Arthur Pym, he’s fucking cold as ice.

ONIMUSHA
If you have been digging Blue Eye Samurai, then there’s a fair chance you might dig this as well.

Overseen by gonzo genre master Takashi Miike, it too is an animated samurai epic. It’s just as violent as BES, but it’s more anime in style and quite a bit more fanciful: it features an Infinity Gauntlet type weapon and garishly long tongued demons.
The main character is modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the godfather of samurai film; those familiar with his work will no doubt recognize a lot of the mannerisms Mifune perfected in his classic film roles.
Oh, and it’s based on a popular Capcom videogame series.

BLOOD AND GOLD
While the core story is a familiar tale teeming with elements of the mysterious stranger trope, it is rendered with a great deal of verve and panache.
Piled high with well choreographed action sequences, a couple of stock yet still potent villains, some nice use of music, and a swift sense of pacing, the film is a highly watchable spaghetti western-styled World War 2 yarn.

THE MACHINE
I thoroughly enjoyed this comedic action lark that builds upon Bert Kreischer’s iconic story about his collegiate trip to Russia.
Mark Hamill, much like Hugh Grant, is enjoying a wonderful late career second act, proving to be a deft comedic foil. And Kreischer is a delightfully charismatic schlub.
The action sequences are decent and I laughed out loud more’n once. Kinda bummed that I skipped it at the theater (stupidly I listened to the reviews, which largely wrote the film off as a mediocre, one note situational action comedy proving that most present day “critics” don’t know shit or they just don’t find Kreischer funny; I do).
YMMV, but it was worth my time and then some.

Thanks for the rec! I saw him this fall, and the machine story was funny, but he got side-tracked a few times and dragged it along too long. It seems like a great story for a movie.

This 8-episode series seems like it woulda been shown on those channels as it’s literally soft-core porn masquerading as a black ops Mission: Impossible-styled action endeavor crossed with The Hangover/Bachelor Party-styled hijinx.
It’s cheesy and bad, but I could not stop watching it, mostly to see how over-the-top it would go. There’s full frontal, John Holmes shaming stunk cocks, catheter torture, coke addled camels, Elvis impersonators, glow-in-the-dark dildos, erotically inferred use of whipped cream, gratuitous beefcake, LSD induced gremlins, and C. Thomas Howell shitting himself. Yeah. You read that right.
Stoopidly entertaining.

Beverly Hills Cop is indisputably one of the greatest American action comedies ever produced. It resides firmly in the canon along with Lethal Weapon, 48 Hours, Die Hard, First Blood, and Predator (amongst a few others) in terms of defining what a great modern action film is.
I honestly don’t recall anything about Becerly Hills Cop 2 and am pretty sure I never saw Beverly Hills Cop III. And I am always skeptical about reboots and sequels that appear years after the original (BHC came out in 1984!!!).
