I got a little last week, was in Pawley's Island SC for my birthday. Waves sucked but it was great to be in the water.

as this place needs more surf stoke
I hear that and it kinda makes me wonder why the surf stoke is so low. I see plenty of threads needing info for upcoming trips but only a small fraction turn into TR's, any thoughts on why people don't post surf TR's? I bought the photos off a photog down there but I'm clueless on the best way to prevent some random lurker from jacking the photos without permission, even if the surfer is an avg joe

stoke is stoke. pics, words, or both. never enough or too much of it.

grabbed a rocket replacement and put the old dog on the rack for 250.00 after 11 months of service. some young kid will be stoked.

since the rocket is kinda an average wave groveler, even tho i used it for everything round here year round, i went one inch shorter and 1/2 inch wider and about the same thickness with a nice pulled in rocket tail, maybe a bit more pulled in than the 5'9 rocket.

years ago i owned a 9' hp longboard handshaped by matt kechele out of florida. twas my one board quiver for a bunch o years. loved that board. so instead of spending an extra 200 bux on another lost, i bought a rocket replacement called the sprocket by matt kechele. 5'8x20x2.35. run it thruster or quad fcs. tonight i ran it quad.

i'm not a big fan of 4 oz glass. they don't hold up. epoxy i like better, but this time i went with
6 oz glass. a bit heavy? yes, but made tonights wind chop smooth as glass. waist occ chest, but not nearly as good as this morning. the new board paddled and caught waves quite a bit better than my rocket. the difference really surprised me actually. caught some fun lefts and got a good feel for the board with some nice top to bottom backside rail to railers and a board slide or two.

stoked to get it on waves like this morning. will head back out in the morning nh. nice to be back home now.

My first real board was a 6'4" Kechele. Good board it was.

As for having nothing but a longboard for a 'bunch o years', no wonder you don't want to ride one. They are really meant to be ridden no more than a few times a month. And then, just in summer.

Piggity, I don't see what can be done to stop someone from pulling a photo on TGR. You can water stamp them for protection, but that can be cropped out. Unless they use it to make money, I feel it is just good old fashion sharing. If they do make money, and you own the rights they owe you. The shots would need to be pretty darn good for someone to earn cash for them, tho. Personally, I am not worried about anything I post up.

Speaking of which, even my boy enjoys watching a good roller.

Rog- you are a fucking madman, if I ever get back to the EC maybe we can paddle some longboards around NH. HA-ha

    Just picked up this beast 5’11” - 2 5/8” - 21 1/4” with a 15” nose & tail
Catches waves like a longboard - surfs like a rocket

^^^nice looking board. i've got to try one of those out. i just don't see how something so wide and thick would surf quickly rail to rail. hell, my short boards tend to be 2.5 inches narrower, and a good 1/2 inch thinner. got to figure out what i want before i get the next one shaped. but with fall around the corner, i may choose to replace my step up board instead of small wave board....

yes. trip postponed by 18 hours; allows for 2 sessions at beginning of swell. and we avoid holiday traffic. hopefully we get home early on monday...

    madman?! mutant maybe

new boards are fun and interesting.

maine sunday, cape cod monday, nh this morning. paddled out on the 5'8 kechele this am for 2.5 hours in perfect offshore clean knee/thigh at best and caught a ton o waves. definitely a wave catcher, but i know it's gonna work well in solid surf. get on early, get in early and fly. maybe another 1 board quiver for round here.

comical to make complete round backside snaps on a lil board in tiny waves. fun.

louis! sorry to hear about the car. was convinced you must be driving a suby. better waves later and better waves nh in the am. 8 sessions in 7 days and counting....

You are correct that it does not surf that quickly from rail to rail, and for someone of your surfing caliber (expert, I assume) it might not be exactly what you are looking for. I on the other hand surf like a goon, so for me the thickness & wideness help me out immensely when catching waves and then staying in control while racing down the line.

    Dude, I am Rick Kane...

Moved from NJ to CA and just starting surfing/kooking it up everyday.

i like that my online persona creates an assumption of expert. nice.

while im no laird, im no longer a goon, and i get your point. it may also have to do with the type of wave. everytime im on a fish, and there is water moving up the face, i get hung up on the wide nose. otoh, ive seen folks paddle into crazy flat sections early with a high volume shortish board.

i still think id like to have a 6'6" slug shaped. 2.8" thick, 20.5" wide, with a thick neck and wide hips. but that would not really ride much like a short board at all.

why didn't you surf in NJ? There are some good beach breaks on that stretch of coast.

I surfed the Casino Pier in Seaside Heights as a pre-teen and young teenager but by the time I was a sophomore in high school I was into being a retarded guido and wearing Cavaricci’s. Plus, we lived in Ringwood, 80 miles from the shore and my parents didn’t buy their shore house in Lavallette until I had already moved to VT.

But one fateful January day in 2004 I took a trip to Orange County to see an old high school friend who I surfed with in NJ, we surfed the whole week I was in CA and I have been addicted ever since. From that day, I did everything it took to move myself to CA and surf as much as possible for the past 7 years. And then I discovered there were mountains as well in CA...

nope, no shelter needed tomorrow, wind will be straight off in most locales round here. we very rarely have wind issues on our coastline.

hopefully the buoy grows overnight. right now it's pretty tiny.

just in case anyone's in the market for a handshaped ec board for around 500 bux.

my new board. mines same length, but a touch wider about same thickness.

    works well in knee/thigh too.

Went out at Terrmar yesterday after work. Absolutely nothing. Unfortunately looks like I'll be missing this labor day swell this weekend too.

    Good move.

so true. amazing the difference between there and here when it comes to wind.

As it were, it looks like we are to have very favorable winds and good tides during this coming swell. I am sad i will be missing it, because for sure G will light up, and that spot is the absolute best, other than F. And that is debatable. No it looks like we might hit the road on Friday afternoon again. Fickle like a hurricane my wife is being.

    ^That is a super exciting report^

HIGHER SURF LIKELY NORTH OF CAMP PENDLETON.
I’m assuming this means South OC and the entire Trestles area, correct?

Funny how the s swells have come in over the weekends...now, it comes in over a holiday weekend....AHAHAHA.

I've been waveless for most of the summer. With a new baby, it has been hard to gain the motivation to drive to hunt waves, considering SB is blocked all summer long. I had a two week trip planned to PNG which fell through, but I just booked a trip last night...so I guess I'm feeling alright.

I've only surfed so much this summer because (1) the wife was home to watch the boy and (2) it was all mostly within 5-20 minutes from my house. Otherwise, there was not a whole lot worth driving for other than a mid sized south or three. This one looks legit, but time will tell. These things often get hyped. Not sure, but I think a decent south came over this weekend last year. I recall leaving town after having an excellent session early Saturday morning.

On a more exciting note, it is almost September, the NPAC is starting to move around a bit instead of just being a big double blob of high pressure. Earlier this week it felt like Autumn around here.

I moved here during college and learned to surf. I knew about Mammoth and Squaw, and when I discovered I could ski great mountains winter weekends and surf all summer that was it. I will never go back to the east coast. If you want to ski winter weekends and surf summer weekends socal and norcal are hard to beat. When I discovered Mt. Baldy, and realized that my non-Mammoth weekends I could still ski, that finalized it.

Things are looking good for this weekend. Should be very solid. If the water stays as warm as it's been the last few weekends things should be nice.

    Ott,

Interesting that it was fallish up there. Down here has been insanely hot for most of the last few weeks. The water is in the low 70's and it's 90 outside my office right now.
