The good: definitely more power and more modulation, no fade at all and took a much lighter touch. The bad: every review said the same thing, and they’re right. The lever is too far away even adjusted all the way in. I couldn’t find a natural feeling position for them, and if I took my fingers completely off the levers grabbing them again didn’t feel intuitive at all. Seems like the only real fix is to buy aftermarket levers from Freedom Coast for $100. I got hooked up on the brakes so I can (barely) stomach the cost, but that seems like a pretty bad option for a premium level brake.

I recently got a Norco Sight which came with Trail Evo's instead of the Shimano's that were spec'd on the bike. Rode them for a few weeks to see what I thought before seeing what reviews said...I pretty much came to the same conclusion as ZZZ and all the reviews.

I was surprised when I looked them up and saw the price. Honestly went a few weeks thinking they were a budget brake based on the finish of the levers!

But they seem powerful and shine on big alpine descents IME so far. I'll definitely keep them for the foreseeable future.

I started working on bringing my trail toolkit up to date. Today I picked up Wolftooth chain pliers...Next on the list is dynaplugs, a Specialized mtb mini pump, and a tublito.

I "upgraded" my Dominion A4s on my hardtail to Formula Curas, since I put the A4s on my bigger bike. Overall, I'd give them a 8.5/10 and think they are a great trail brake. I've taken them on some long, brake-heavy descents though, and I could immediately tell the difference in how much less modulation and control the 2-piston Curas have compared to the 4-piston A4s.

So happy with the Curas, but they've also made me appreciate my Dominions a whole lot more.

Some other bugs I have about the Curas are that they are advertised as hand-adjustable for lever position, but that's not the case, and it's awkward to get a wrench behind the lever to adjust it. I also have the levers as close to the bar as possible, and I would go further if I could. I suspect folks that like their brakes to bite very close to the bars won't be able to make the Curas work for them. My last complaint is that I don't think Galfer makes pro pads for Cura 2s and I really wish they would

These are as close as I’ve found to the old VXI.
Wider/roomier than the Impact Pro but not as stiff. I can’t compare stiffness to any of the 27 different Freerider versions, but guessing similar to the stifferer ones.
Gonna keep the Impacts for park since foot fatigue might be an issue. But these will be my new daily driver for all pedaly rides.

I finally bought a new-style helmet: Troy Lee A3. I’ve been riding for four years on the A1 which was first sold in like 2012 and never updated, mostly because I could always find them for like $50 in MIPS.

The A3 is awesome. My big riding glasses don’t get smacked by the brim of the helmet and get pushed down my face, the sweat band inside does exactly what it’s supposed to, the suspension fit it awesome, and it’s incredibly well vented compared to the A1. I can’t believe I waited so long to get a decent helmet.

-Two light bicycle speed rims with Sapim cxray spokes and alloy nipples
-Chris King front hub
-S works fast track, 2.35 front rubber.
-Gates belt, front ring, and rear sprocket
-Newish Time pedals to replace my completely outdated Speedplays

Plus, it’s not quite up to slaagmaster, but there’s some pretty funny shit in the background, including my old plug boots .

Bought this little Mara inline shock and slapped er on tonight. Already like it more than the SIDluxe... less pressure for same sag, better small-bump, less bongy tween hits, just smoother. Better matched with the 34 g2 up front.

I can’t say for sure since I don’t have time on many other sets of brakes but I do know they are way better than the Guide RSC’s that they replaced.

- Code RSCs (rainbow bits)

Such a fun bike, pedals great, plenty of smash when needed yet the short chain stays keep this bike so so active/playful!

Sick Rig! Got that drivetrain, those rims, and those brakes going over to my new build.

FINALLY got the Lady's new ride built up. Canfield Tilt. Nice upgrade from the Nimble Nine hardtail she's been on for two years. I fucked up on the fork though. Got it cheap, it's a 140 that I thought I could convert to 150 for $40. Turns out the 34 doesn't do that anymore. A 36 felt like overkillI for her, I mainly wanted the geometry benefit of the 150 fork. I guess we're gonna go there though. Anyway she LOVES it so mission accomplished. Size small, 165mm cranks, a 33mm Spank Split stem, 150mm One UP dropper really help dial in to her size. 31.8 Protaper carbon bars should be somewhat forgiving.



Now I can start on MY new build!

If your new to AXS it’s a bit of a trip to undo the last half-decade of muscle memory. There is a replacement trigger that feels a bit more natural for like $12 on amazon. The wheels are so nice, that lateral rigidity is nutty!
