I've decided to go with the Saatva when I move in about six weeks. I will report back after some zzzzzzzzs.
Not sure if anybody cares but I finally got to sleep on my Casper mattress last night. There was a bit of a snafu with UPS and trying to be home to sign for it, etc. It comes in a box and weighs about 65# so I was able to move it upstairs on my own. You take it out of the box and liberate it from it's bindings and the thing kind of inflates and after about an hour it was ready to go. First impressions (one night) are good. I was sleeping on a crappy 12 year old spring mattress with a memory foam topper before, and although the Casper is firmer it is already a huge improvement. My wife isn't sold yet and despite my pleas ( you know so I can give a full review) we haven't tested out the 'bounce" yet. But I imagine it will be somewhere between a spring mattress and a memory foam one. All in all, $850 for a queen seems like a heck of a deal for this.
I wish I had known this before when iceman bought his but there is a referral program and if I refer you and you buy I get $75 and you get $75 off your mattress, so if anybody is looking to buy let me know and we can help each other out.
Yo Benny - you ever get that Saatva?
(Mcsquared - my friend ordered a Casper and put you down as a referral)
Expect a check payable to McSquared in the mail.
Not yet. Funny story. I decided to move the old mattress, instead of trying to have new stuff delivered. I have a ton of stuff to buy. So, my old landlord and I are watching the moving guys try to jam my mattress through a door standing up, when all they had to do is turn it on it's side. My jaw was stuck open. Bam, bam, bam. It was like two Mexicans and a black guy doing a Three Stooges routine, with all of the "you idiot" and "nyuk nyuk" in Spanish and Eubonics. Well, anyway, when I finally rest my head after that long day, I said to myself, damn, this feels nice. I guess they shook it up well. Maybe that's all it needs for a while. That and maybe a much cheaper mattress top I saw at BB and Beyond the other day.
Whoops. Ebonics.
So.
Decided to try a mattress topper before buying a new one. Took my BB and Beyond 20% off coupon in and mulled over the choices. First went with the Therapedic top, which was a hundred dollars cheaper than the Temperpedic top. (The TempurTopper. Jesus, talk about an gift from above for the marketing dept. with that name) the Therapedic sucked, brought it right back, and almost gave up on the idea, but exchanged for the TemperTopper. This one is the real deal. Weighs almost fifty pounds (queen), and took about eight hours to expand to shape out of the box. Yes, it smelled awful, and after eight days, that's finally getting much better. I would suggest buying one of these or the bed before you go away for vacation, and open the windows. Nasty, almost eye burning smell.
But, the sleep experience is pretty cool. I'm still not sure if I like it. I don't know if it's hurting or helping my back, because it's such a different experience, my whole body feels different. I'm getting tons of pops and clicks out of the spine and neck, especially while stretching, of course, and this just didn't happen much before. I was happy to pop my spine once a week, maybe. I sleep pretty damn well, too. Feels just like the Temperpedic beds I tried in the stores, at 325 bucks, so this is a much cheaper way to find out if you like the experience, which is very different from anything I have ever felt. I think it's a keeper, but I'll decide in a week.
The heat problem is a bit noticeable, too, but not too bad. Will be good in the winter, right? Haven't had a chance to put it to the shag test yet. That feels like it may be an issue, but, easy on the knees, I'm thinking.
It's helping your back. I had the same thing happen when I first got my Tempurpedic mattress. I felt like it was reorganizing my back, and wasn't sure if it was for the better.
After a while (took 8 to 12 weeks), it settles out for the better. A life of back issues and pain from car accidents, ski racing crashes, bike crashes, and general abuse, has disappeared. Helped with hip and IT band issues too.
Now go get some Tempurpedic pillows. Several. Place one under you head, on between your knees, and an extra to prop where ever feel a comfy. Like being in a comfy, foam nest, while floating in outer space.
[/End being "that Tempupedic guy".]

Ordered a Tuft & Needle (10") and it was too firm for me and my wife. I'm a side sleeper and getting old and need some give. My wife complained that her yoga mat would be more comfortable. The company was great, though, and I got a full refund after donating the mattress to a neighbor.
Ordered a bedinabox.com mattress (their standard one, original gel or something) and it's awesome. The layer of gel on top makes for just enough give.
Benny, Benny, Benny - just get the new mattress already! LOL!!! These baby steps are leading you there eventually so you might as well jump to the end.
Got a chance to try out a Casper when my friend was out of town and I was in town. Seems like a nice mattress for the money. Friend put it on an old futon frame which seemed to work nicely. Personally I prefer to be up off the ground more (The Casper can also go on a box spring or platform).
In any case, after 2 years I am still loving my Beautyrest Black luxury firm (called a Camille from the place I bought it).
Next thing you need after the new mattress is some nice bedding and a good pillow - check these guys out:
Cuddledown
I'm 'that guy' too. Been on a tempurpedic for 2 months now. Spent the weekend sleeping on pimpy Stowe Mtn Lodge mattresses and had to stretch the wretched pains out of my back every morning. Back on the rock/cloud (I got the firmest model, my mother-in-law calls it a 'flinstones bed') and my body feels better, consistently, than it ever has before. It cost a frickin' mint, but if I get 8+ years out of it it'll be $ well spent.
we've been in the market for a king bed, moving up from queen
i couldn't bring myself to pay temperpedic prices on a king matress
we decided to keep our budget under $2k
we've had a comforpedic foam mattress that we've liked and went with another for the king
Ah, music to my ears. But, really, it was a bit of a gamble, but I'm pretty happy I did this. I would be a tad freaked out if I dropped 4 thou on a temperpedic bed, and had to deal with what I'm dealing with right now, which is the smell ( going away quickly), and the totally different sleeping experience. BB and Beyond has a very liberal return policy (I'm pretty sure I can bring this thing back after two weeks), so it seems to be the best way to experience the product with minimal cost and hassle.
It's pretty cool. I look forward to beddy bye time. Get on top, and ten minutes later, I'm sunk in. I sleep pretty well. My spine and neck are still popping a lot.
Ironically, I'm thinking I may need a new mattress underneath, but something harder than I have, some cheap thing on sale from the local mattress emporium. Sort of a softer box spring, on top of the box spring,in a way. The combo should do me four four or five years, I think.

Benny one of your sky is falling brethren has moved on (unfortunate circumstances from the limited details). I was wondering if you felt a disturbance in the impending doom force.
Nope. Must have happened while I was sleeping like a baby.
I guess that new mattress worked.
We're waiting on our new latex to come. Cost entirely too much, but most comfortable and supportive bed I've ever laid on, and should last for 20 years.
This thread inspired me to pull the trigger and replace my 10 year old mattress. It was a toss up between the Tuft and Needle, Caspar, and Saatva. Ended up going with the Saatva queen medium firm and the 8" base. Should be here in 2-3 weeks. I'm super stoked and will post a review in a bit.

My wife and I loved our mattress so much, we bought a second one for our cabin 15? years ago. It's now our daughter's. We are renting an apt. near a city now so we're trying a Tuft and Needle 10 there. It's firm, but it ain't so bad. We recommend it.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
A friend of mine bought a Hastens
You gotta watch this video about how it is made

I've been having back problems so I slept on my kid's tempurpedic cloud-prima. Nice firmness, it didn't sleep hot. Price reasonable. I might get one.
