Apparently all our years of shooting epic skiing and riding in the Tetons simply wasn't enough hype for the Wyoming Office of Tourism. According to Wyoming Public Media, they've now signed on with Pixar and Disney to help promote Pixar's latest animated film, The Good Dinosaur, which will premiere around Thanksgiving and which takes place entirely in an animated version of Wyoming, with depictions of popular Wyoming landmarks including the state's signature mountain range.
The film depicts a world in which dinosaurs and humans coexist, and centers around the friendship between a boy and a (yes, I'll admit it, gaaaaah!) super cute, omnivorous Apatosaurus, whose friendship is instigated when the loincloth-sporting child helps the dinosaur secure some berries from a high branch. In the trailer, you can spot iconic Wyoming zones like Yellowstone's geyser area, the Red Desert, and its vast grassy plains. Also, after what we assume was some prodding from Wyoming legislators, the state dinosaur–the Triceratops–will also be featured in the film.
What remains to be seen is whether or not hordes of small school-age children will flood the Tetons' already popular backcountry zones, surely causing issues were they to center-punch it up the Ford-Stetner Couloir hunting for fossils while backcountry skiers and riders attempt to descend from above. Teton Search and Rescue has been alerted to the potential popularity of the film and has sought to work with local ski areas to offer safer inbounds dinosaur hunting experiences to deter youth from seeking fossils in the backcountry.
