Assistant Editor

Reports To:  Lead Editor and Post-Production Supervisor
Works With: Editors, Producers, DITs, Music Supervisor, Sound Design, Color, Graphics, Field Crews

Role Overview

The Assistant Editor is the backbone of TGR’s post pipeline. They are primarily responsible for racking and preparing incoming footage from the field so the Lead Editor can focus on creative execution. This includes ingesting, organizing, syncing, and building clean project structures. The Assistant Editor will maintain orderly timelines, create selects, assist with turnovers, and ensure that every asset is properly labeled, accessible, and ready for edit from first cut through final delivery to Lead Editor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ingest, verify, and back up media from field shoots; maintain organized folder structures and project templates.
  • Create proxies, transcode media, and manage relinks across high-res/low-res workflows.
  • Sync audio (timecode/tentacle/manual), label, and log footage; build stringouts, radio cuts, and selects reels.
  • Prep and maintain multi-cam/group clips; manage scene/segment bins, markers, and metadata.
  • Execute VFX, sound, and color turnovers (AAF/EDL/XML, reference exports, pull lists, handle counts) and track notes through revisions.
  • Temp mix dialogue/SFX/music; organize and update music cue sheets and licenses.
  • Create caption files, titles, lower thirds, and simple graphics; prep end cards and sponsor slates.
  • QC exports for audio peaks, cadence, dead frames, captions, color space, and delivery specs; manage final deliverables and archives.
  • Maintain post calendars, status boards, and clear communication between edit, production, and finishing teams.

Skills & Experience

  • 2 - 4 years in documentary/commercial post or equivalent; action sports experience a plus.
  • Advanced Adobe Premiere Pro; working knowledge of After Effects, Media Encoder, Audition (or Pro Tools familiarity).
  • Strong understanding of codecs, color spaces, LUTs, frame rates, and conform/online best practices.
  • Proven media management chops: proxy workflows, relinking, multicam, and large-project organization.
  • Comfortable with Google Workspace, Slack, Frame.io (or similar), and asset trackers.
  • Meticulous, proactive, and calm under deadline pressure; excellent communication and note-taking.
  • Passion for mountain sports and cinematic storytelling.

Bonus Points

  • DaVinci Resolve conforms or assistant-color experience.
  • Basic motion graphics (AE precomp hygiene, dynamic links).
  • Field savvy (DIT basics, offload/verify, card reports).
  • 5.1/immersive deliverables familiarity and captioning tools (SRT/CEA-608).

Content Marketing Internships

About the role
Join Teton Gravity Research for a hands-on content marketing internship. You’ll support our digital, social, and editorial channels—helping shape stories from the mountains to the masses.

What you’ll do

  • Draft on-brand copy for social posts and help maintain the content calendar (Metricool scheduling).
  • Assist editorial with blog drafts, story logging, and calendar upkeep.
  • Surface standout UGC that fits the TGR voice; request permissions for reposts.
  • Collaborate on active campaigns: brainstorms, asset coordination, light QA, and publishing support.
  • Join team meetings to track timelines and contribute ideas.

Production Internships

About the role

Join Teton Gravity Research for a hands-on production internship. You’ll work alongside our post-production supervisor, gear manager, and editing team—gaining real-world experience in the fast-paced environment of action-sports media production. This is an in-office role based in Wilson, WY, just outside Jackson, where you’ll help keep projects and workflows moving smoothly across departments.

What you’ll do

  • Assist editors with second system audio syncing and general post-production tasks.
  • Support the post-production supervisor with project organization and media prep.
  • Work with the gear manager to help maintain, prep, and organize production equipment.
  • Help source music, b-roll, and graphics for ongoing edits.
  • Contribute to occasional social edits or rough cuts under guidance from the editing team.
  • Pitch in around the office wherever needed—every day’s a little different.
  • Participate in production and creative meetings, learning how projects come together from shoot to screen.
