There are about ninety four k in prison in ca total. Jails account for another fifty - the immigrant number there isn’t really tracked , but it’s safe to assume the percentages are similar for all immigrants

Illegal immigrants are incarcerated at less than half the rate of native born America’s, so it looks like we are deporting the wrong people.

That is not adding context. It is repeating what I said.

California is a rich state, not a failed state.

Only in right wing fever dreams are we a failed state.

    Fuck you are dumb.

Did Bidens policies favor enriching the wealthiest? No. They were taxed higher, IRS ramped up enforcement on wealthy tax cheats, etc., etc.

Incomes of the bottom quintile of earners grew faster under Biden than at any time since the 90s. Also the fist time income inequality started coming down since the 90s.

Trump, currently doing the exact opposite.

But way to come in guns a blazing and shooting yourself in the dick. Keep it up guy!

well, not sure where you get numbers but a mocrosoft search: "104,000
In California, there were about 104,000 illegal immigrants incarcerated in state prisons and local jails in 2019."

i suppose that 80,000 got out for good behavior past 5 years

Skicouger is too dumb to do a basic reasonability check on his sources. His stat would mean there are 800,000! People in California prisons and jails. An absolutely massive overstatement that doesn’t come close to any sources.

So, first of all, the state is not responsible for local debt.

    State debt is ~$270B.

How big is the California economy? $4.1 Trillion/year.

So state debt is 6.6% of GDP. How ever will we afford that?

But also, the biggest driver of Californias financial issues is Prop 13. That was not a libtard Priposition.

California has not been running sustained deficits - they were running significant budget surpluses just recently - but the revenue swings wildly because Prop 13 limits property taxes, which are stable, requiring more funding to come from more volatile sources like income taxes.

Anyway, go yell at Kentucky and West Virginia and New Youk and Hawaii to get their fiscal house in order.

So, make the TRump tax cuts permanent? Great thinking....

Four of the worlds five richest men had prime seats at Donald Trumps inauguration.

Silicon Valley tycoons Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg sat shoulder-to-shoulder at the event while Bernard Arnault, the French fashion magnate, was nearby, behind Barack Obama. The missing man was Larry Ellison. The 80-year-old, who rounds out the top five wealth list, was notably absent from the pageantry of the inauguration as the worlds cameras were trained on Washington.

But the founder of the database giant Oracle has been a regular presence by Trumps side. Ellison, whose $194bn (£156bn) net worth makes him the worlds fourth-richest person on Bloombergs Billionaires Index, was inside the White House the day after the inauguration as Trump announced a $500bn investment in artificial intelligence data centres.

On Monday, he sat next to Rupert Murdoch to witness the president announcing a US sovereign wealth fund. “Larry is one of the most serious players anywhere in the world, Trump said.

California debt--both state and local--is in the form of taxpayer approved bonds, mostly to build infrastructure, unlike the Federal debt, which is passed by Congress and much of it is to fund ongoing operations. Infrastructure is what generates income in the long term; investing in it is generally a wise move. I'm one of the folks California owes money two--my CA muni fund has done pretty well for a tax free investment.

For going on fifty fucking years now, every single Republican administration has cut taxes for the rich, and every Democratic administration has raised taxes on the rich. How the fuck have some people not noticed this pattern yet?

I will be marching in Duluth. Carrying a full sized US Flag [emoji631] and a one-word sign, “TACO”.

Why am I flying the US Flag. Because I am a patriotic American. Fuck Trump, Fuck MAGA, Fuck the Republican Party. None of them are remotely patriotic and have zero right to identify with the flag.

California pays ~16% of all federal tax revenue. That means we will be responsible for covering ~16% of federal debt. I am much more concerned with that - and with the new bill that adds another $2.4 trillion to the debt to fund massive tax cuts to the richest Americans - than I am with our state debt.

Californias share of the debt from just this one bill would be $384 billion, never mind the existing federal debt. That is significantly higher than Californias total accumulated $270 billion state debt.

If CA has been paying in way more than it gets back for many years, this should reduce our share of paying off the Federal debt not make it higher. Let the states that receive annually more finally pay back their share.

I get the sentiment, but that is like saying all the Medicaid and SNAP recipients should be the ones to pay off the debt.

In a liberal democracy we redistribute some money or services to those who need it. That is the deal.
