Rode up the lift with some enthusiastic folks this morning who loudly exclaimed that today was “A fricking epic snow day.” I gave them the bombastic side-eye and asked “You folks are from the East Coast, right?”
They (naturally) replied “Yes” and then asked me “How did you know?”
My reply: “Only somebody from the East Coast would consider dust on refrozen coral reef conditions to be epic…”

Dookey I think he meant ‘just being rad is the lesson’.
And your EC clients were right. Today was awesome and I’m stoked for tomorrow

If you skiied something low angle and didn't turn, you could convince yourself we got a foot versus a couple inches. Honestly the highlight of the day yesterday was pulling up to the chain check at the west end of donner lake behind a red corvette. He got turned around by the chain check guy who told me "he claimed caltrans told him to go this way, he didn't want to put chains on the vette"

Visited Sierra-At-Tahoe on Saturday. My first time there. Great hill. While pushing my way out to the far reaches of Huckleberry looking for soft snow in the sun and generally exploring the boundries, I ran into a longtime SLT ski personality and organizer of an fund raiser event to symbolically re-tree SAT with a ski from roughly Caples Lake to SAT. If I understand correctly beyond making a donation, the skiers will carry and transport seedlings from Caples Lake to the base of SAT. Some of the fit mountaineers in this thread might be interested - K2sierra4trees.org.

My sister lives in Ontario, skis just across the boarder in Quebec for the most part. She was looking for new skis and I recommended Volkl Secret 88s. She went to the store on Saturday and the sales guy told her "you don't want those, those are powder skis".

Not a good scene. Really, probably the childs fault, but it does not matter much in the grand scheme. Child is OK after surgery. The staff member on the sled has to live with it. One of my buddies was a witness/first responder. Scary stuff. Could have been worse.

Today was fun!! You had to stay light on your feet to not be down in the coral reef. We found some deep blown in snow. My kid was hucking!! I may not be his favorite ski partner, but he is mine. Hahaha.

I responded to a snowmobile vs skier in my patrol days. I recall being shocked at the amount of damage to the dude. It was like he got mauled by a shark.

28 F and damp creamy snow at kwood today. Around 3 pm I found an iPhone 16 right near bottom of ch 5, turned it in at the ski pass front office. Thunder Saddle skied well.

Back in the fall, in the first few days after a shoulder reconstruction, i booked a trip to South Lake with my wife for mid-late next week thinking it would be a good goal to rehab hard enough to be cleared to get some groomer cruising in at Heavenly with some classic tahoe spring skiing vibes. Well, the rehab went better than expected and ive been skiing fairly hard for a few weeks now, and the forecast has turned stormy. I don't know heavenly well and the last time i was there during a storm most of the mountain was shut down, and what was open was barely steep enough to make 3 turns in a row before having to straighline for speed again. We are staying in the casinos and i have heard that could pose some issues as the gondoal and upper mountain all shut down in wind. So, im looking at other options. Sierra and N* used to be the go-to options for storm skiing, but is that still the case after the fire at Sierra? Regardless, all the info i can find online about shuttles from the casinos is outdated and doesnt seem trustworthy. Id LOVE to take my wife back to kirkwood where i had my pass back in the late oughts/early 10s (assuming carson pass stays open), but again i cant find anything about shuttles/busses/etc. Is there a rideshare facebook group or something that could be an option? Or am i basically stuck at Heavenly, and will likely just use the Heavenly shuttle to the CA base? Or would stagecoach be the better base to shuttle to?

There is no public shuttle to KW. It would be nice, esp w their parking policy.

I prefer the CA side of the snow levels are below the lake. And there is coverage down to the parking lot. Lots of fun stuff off gun barrel once the lines at Canyon and Powderbowl get too long.

OTOH, as long as Boulder is running, there are some fun options off Olympic on the NV side.

Sierra has lost most of its trees. So doubt the storm days are what they used to be.

Somebody asked awhile ago about the missing Nocta’s from the line up. Just saw the latest special editions today. Straight out of the crows nest in Chamonix.

You should take a look at HV conditions on Twitter. It'll give an idea how they operate. They got maybe 6" last night. NorthBowl chair opened just after 9 today. Mott at like 10. Will post a screen shot, but prolly won't work.

HV is all about wind hold.. Check with Willy Weather wind forecast... Anything above 35 mph is likely going to result in upper mountain closures which can really suck in some cases but in other cases where there's a lot of pow on the lower mountain you are stoked to be riding there while other mountains have a lot of avalanche mitigation to do. I would personally rather be stuck on the NV side but getting up there can be a pain too. It's always a mixed bag of trade offs but at least we have choices in the Tahoe regions.. End of next week storm looks windy too FWIW. Gonodola won't run...

This morning was kinda bueno at The Star.
Silky dusting that held up well.
So well that it was decent skiing with 74mm beer league GS hybrids.
Bagged 3rd peak of Sawtooth (iykyk) before lunch,
Switched skis to a 94mm with rocker and then drug a posse of kids out to “The Dog Biscuit” (iykyk) apres lunch for some untracked NW facing turns.
Anything that was E had turned coral reef by 2:45, but Eminem aspects (slim and shady) held well up until closing.
