What plastic is the AR One? How temperature stable is it?

All good, man. My Zips are Garas. I could not get them into the AR shell if my life depended on it. I have used them in all sorts of two piece boots, walk mode boots included, with no issues. Who knows, but I could not get the heel to slide in even opening the shell by hand.

I am sure that if I were really determined I could figure out how to make the AR work for me. Different liner, heat molding, etc. I do like that boot. A part of me wants to ski a cabrio (esqe?) boot.

Different story with the Remedy. Zips are no problem. I am going to ski the Remedy tomorrow. Honestly, my motivation to try new boots has been low. I really like the Hawx Ultra RS.

You guys are making me want to play with the AR One a bit more. The reality is that I was testing the boot for my fitter. He was trying to decide if he would bring that boot in. I gave him a quick and dirty impression. I liked the boot, but it was not a super easy fit for me or my friends that tried it.

Anyone else here ski it with different experience yet?

Plastic in the AR One is a polyurethane (ether) that best matches the wall thickness of the boot. Generally speaking, there are certain PU plastics that work best for super thin boots, for medium thickness boots, and for really thick boots. The Formula plastic is geared towards the thicker-walled boots.

ONK or others that have fiddled with the Remedy, how would you compare the flex to a Head WCR 130 or Lange Shadow 130? And how much wider does it get for a 29.5?

    Does last size increase/decrease with boot length? If the 26 is a 100 is the 27 a101 and the 25 a 99?

All footwear scales with size. Atomic scales the forefoot width by +/- 2mm per mold size up/down from 26. So a 29 is 102mm wide.

The flex will feel way closer to a WCR 130 than a Shadow 130.

So one mold per 3 sizes?

    Redster TX/Remedy = 96mm / 26.5
    AR One = 100mm / 26.5

    Go +/-2mm per mondopoint size

I’ve skied both the shadow LV and Raptor and have a day in the remedy. ONK is correct the remedy feels like the raptor. It really isn’t close with the shadow. As a bigger guy I had an issue with the flex of the shadow and the high instep. My heel would lift and completely blow through the flex causing a ton of calf pain.

Do these boots go 26.5/27 or 26/26.5? Thanks

    26/26.5

As far as I am aware, only Scarpa goes 26.5/27.0 (really a 26.5 mold).

Thanks for the response. Im 6-4 205 with skinny legs, skinny ankles, and normalish feet. Im done with the hybrid boot (Cochise 130) so Im trying to get a handle on where to start for next year. I've only had the WCR 130 and Shadow LV 130 on in shops. I liked the flex of the Shadow, felt fine in the shop. The WCR 130 felt great too but at room temp I was collapsing the clog when flexing, it was bowing out. I'm a little worried the Remedy might be too stiff?? All this talk of race boot inspired has given me second thoughts, but I definitely like to drive my skis and ski with forward pressure.

Head Raptor WCR 130 is a "race-inspired" boot too. But this boot gets a lot stiffer when frozen. Remedy might feel a little stiffer in store, but it won't become as stiff when frozen. At your height/weight, I don't think you'll have any issues flexing the Remedy.

Hows the fit of remedy compared to the raptor?

Yep. Gave up on the Shadow for the same reason, that instep is stupid high, and even with a shim plus over buckling the top buckle I didn’t feel like I was contacting the top of the boot.

Now in the WCR 130 with both bolts installed, a Head double booster, and a zipfit gara, and it feels awesome. Did take a little adjustment to get comfortable with the more aggressive ramp/forward lean at first (makes the boot feel softer in store compared to a Lange especially off the top, and I’ve been in langes for 12 years, so very used to that stance) but it also has never folded over or let me blow through the flex like the Shadow/RX would.

(Also as an aside. The internal length of 26.5 Raptor is such that it’s the first 26.5 I’ve been in that I don’t have to punch for length. Amazing how much longer the internal length is in a 304 BSL compared to the Lange RX/RS 306mm.)

I have nothing to add about the Remedy other than that it looks like a killer alpine boot for someone like who is strong, skis fast, and wants a race boot with creature comforts. Grippy soles and shock absorber boot boards are an awesome touch.

Nice work ONK! If I hadn’t made the boot switch this year, the Remedy would be on my radar.

Anyone know of any shops in UT that have the Remedy or Redster TX 130?

The Remedy is a masterpiece!!! Nice work ONK!!! The boot is a Cadillac. It smooths everything out. I think the combo of the plastic, weight and boot board. It is REALLY good.

There is still something a tiny bit off in the forefoot for me. I am not sure if I need to grind it or not. This is not my boot, so I will not figure that out until next year.

Minor caveats: it is a heavy, substantial boot. That may not be for everyone. The plastic still acts like race boot plastic. It was hard to take off cold.

I am going to be sad to give these back.

DoubleBogey I am 6 foot, 160lbs and had zero issues flexing it. In my experience, race inspired boots flex differently. Not necessarily stiffer. I would almost call the initial flex of the Remedy softer than the Hawx Ultra RS (130). I get some shin bang in my Hawx skiing hard and started today with sore shins. I never even thought about it in the Remedy.

Thats good to hear, thanks for the comments. It's for sure at the top of my list, now just the months long wait. Did you ski it with stock liner or a Zipfit?

Is this scale standard across the industry? I thought I just read that (cant remember which boot company) that it changed every two sizes. TIA

The stock liner is really good. I have not skied my Zips since the Mimic liners came out.

I just listened to the Blister podcast. Knowing now that these aren't Mimic. Matt, are the tongues the same? Is there Mimic material in the Hawx tongue? I am fascinated why I get shin bang on choppy days in my RS, but not a hint today and we skied hard.

Oh, and the soft spoiler is a cool touch!!

Everyone scales their lasts (forefoot widths) up or down 2mm each time they change 1 mondopoint size . . . there are companies that keep the same BSL for several sizes, especially at the large end of the range, though.
