With the recent “arrest?” of the famous Palestinian poet (forgot his name) in Gaza by IDF, it’s hard not to consider that at least some of the deaths of journalists in Gaza were intentional.
so because they detained and released this guy they were murdering other journalists? what’s the logic here?

There have been over 50 journalist killed in Gaza so far, and offices and homes of journalists destroyed.
https://cpj.org/2023/11/journalist-c...-conflict/amp/
I haven’t seen evidence that they were intentionally targeted, though the numbers are apparently higher than in previous conflicts.
A photojournalist who was with Hamas terrorists during the attacks and documented them had his home destroyed a few days after it came out that he had been there during the attacks. (You can find a lot of debate about the morality of what the journalist did, but I think the general consensus among journalists themselves is that what he did was journalism, and is protected, as long as he wasn’t aiding/abetting and didn’t have prior knowledge of the attacks.)
Not specific to your question, but didn’t the IDF shoot a journalist in the head in the West Bank a year or two ago and was widely considered intentional by many?
In general, journalists are getting targeted by militaries worldwide so I wouldn’t give the IDF the benefit of the doubt given trends and history
idk man, question and release is not the same as murdering so i thought bodywhompers judgement was a little suspect.
i hope they aren’t putting journalists in harm’s way unnecessarily. reporting from war zones is pretty high risk stuff - the hamas “journalists” who threw grenades and do tagalongs not withstanding.
i think five have been killed in lebanon so far. and reporting about the war there is somewhat important but i’d prefer if they asked Nasrallah how accosting israelis in the north and jeopardizing a cease fire that would put millions more at risk really helps people in gaza.

My brother went to go see our old hebrew school teacher today. dude is in his 60’s and went back to help train people in the reserves. he was greeted by his superior from bitd - now in his 70’s.
i’ve known this guy since about 1990 and he colored my opinion of israel for better (i would argue) or worse for a long ass time.
as i may or may not have mentioned, in the 90’s and before there was freedom of movement, before the suicide bombings and intifadas ruined it. because of that, and that he was a gearhead, one of his friends as a teenager was actually a Palestinian in Gaza that he would wrench with. he was able to see this guy in 2017 and he said there was nothing but hatred there now (this guy i would guess is then an arab israeli not living there anymore). it shook him.
but there’s also the fact that his niece and nephew were at the rave. they made it back but not the three friends they were in the car with.
this shit is the hardest on people who want peace and to get along, anyone who just wants to fight all the time for genocide must be fine with it.
fucking sucks.

I wasn’t aware that he’d been released.
I saw one of the (apparent) main journalist that researched and provided data (not sure who it was provided to) regarding accusations that IDF targeted journalists during previous conflicts was killed this week. Circumstances were unclear from what I read.
looks like the irish girl that has been on the news is going home today.

Details of the US brokered deal for Israel/Hamas ceasefire and hostage release. With the caveat these things tend to fall apart rather quickly:
- A cease-fire will commence Thursday at 10 A.M.
- 50 Israeli women and children released in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners
- For every ten hostages released the cease-fire will be extended one more day
- Red Cross to visit unreleased hostages and provide medical care
- No Israeli aircraft flying over southern Gaza and limited flights over the north
- Hamas will allow Gazans to safely move from the north to the south

Yeah, at least one of them is a convicted mass bomber who wants Israel to pay for her plastic surgery from a poorly thrown grenade.
Hamas and other radical Islamist factions routinely use children as soldiers. It's insane & abhorrent.
If we take religion out of it, one of the ways to think about the story of Abraham being told to sacrifice his son Isaac before an angel stops him is that it was an ancient story telling people to stop the practice of human sacrifice. Radical Islamists embrace human sacrifice to this day, often children, by calling it martyrdom.
We should embrace the majority of Islamic voices who call for compassion and humanity, while at the same time not being blind to eliminationalist tactics which value neither Muslim nor Jewish life.
Abhorrent is a good word. This whole deal sux.
The Rwandan Genocide was perpetrated by Christians against Christians with the help of clergy. Some of the “Thou shalt nots” are superfluous today but if you place in them ancient context they were meant to suppress the darkest places of the human soul.
Per the discussion on this page, one of the hardest things to grapple with is how to apply universal liberal values and human rights to a belligerent that categorically rejects those values and worships death instead.
Yeah, my college roommate was Israeli and I met a lot of Israeli's through him. So many great people, I can't help but be biased.
Yes, everything about this is incomprehensibly horrible. From my house I can see an area 3x larger than all of Gaza. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to live through 1,000 bombs detonating in a fraction of that space every day for weeks on end.
Source?
Closest I can find is a woman who detonated a gas can in her car at a checkpoint. Herself and an officer were injured.
The woman I found is on the list of 300 potential prisoners that could be released, but it sounds like the list of 150 who will be released isn’t finalized.
ETA: The woman I found had two surgeries on her face. The third was denied because it wasn’t deemed necessary to preserve her health. Providing medical care that is necessary to preserve prisoner health is a normal thing that prisons do.
