How do you make a bedroom less "stuffy?" (Partner sleeping conditions thread!)

My partner is used to having a window open all year round (and she's live in in the mountains her whole life). Yes even when it is negative tit icicle degrees outside.

My place was built in 96 and has hot water baseboard. It was -5 last night and the boiler could only keep the place at 62.

Opening a window would freeze the bedroom. She doesn't care if it is 50 at night, but says why not open the window and use a spaceheater but $$$$$$$$, not to mention noise from outside would keep me up. I'm super noise sensitive and you can hear the main road with the window open. Also when it gets cold inside the cats are incessant snugglers (even more than usual) which wakes both us up.

But she can't sleep because it is stuffy....

So this is a partner sleeping conditions compatibility thread!

    Ideas?

A lot of couples are realizing that intimacy and sleeping in the same bed aren’t mutually exclusive.

That sounds like quite the stretch… fans, air purifiers, how much can you really do in one bedroom?

sounds like you need a new lady or she needs to figure out the concept of heat loss. The real answer though is vigorous sex for 2 hours a night , EVERY NIGHT she won't need any additional heat with the windows open.

Define “stuffy”. Too hot or sinuses get clogged up?

I have the latter problem. A humidifier next to my side of the bed fixes that pretty well.

I use this sometimes. I was going to suggest it. For me it just has to be moving air, not always directly on me. No way I'm gonna open my window in winter. And year round there's a noise issue anyway if I open it.

Maybe control your flatulence? Her flatulence? Shower before bed? Use sex as a means of making the room smell better?

Definitely not dating your ex fred. Tall, rips on skis but not bikes. I definitely don't think we date the same type of gal

I have discovered by talking with colleagues that window open in the winter is not a rarity. I just think it is expensive and wasteful, even if you don't have noise/temp issues.

Also anyone have any tips on how to get 4 year old cats to not want to sleep on the bed? Shutting them out of the room creating pure panic and mayhem as they yowled and rattled the door. Giving them heated cat beds got the dominant cat off, but now the other cat feels free to get on the bed.

Sucks to be her, but if it's minus temps outside, she's just gonna have to get over it. You're gonna have to put your foot down on this one. I don't care how "stuffy" (whatever that means) she believes it to be. What does she expect? Live like an ancient queen with her eunuchs fanning her with feathers whilst you hand feed her grapes?

I reckon if I win the lottery I could manage that. Maybe part of a fantasy?

She's remarkably discomfort tolerant (like just doesn't complain when it is 40mph winds and 0F freezing on a ski day or 12 hours into a backpacking deathmarch), but just sleep picky. I can relate. Sleep is a tough thing particularly when you are no longer in your 20s, have old injuries, have established sleep conditions...

Not going to solve your issue (I think the fan might be a good suggestion), but in terms of general compatibility: my wife and I have taken to sleeping on basically separate beds within one king bedframe. We have very different preferences/sleeping temperatures, so we now have two twin mattresses (XL twins are the same length as kings) just sitting directly beside each other with their own sets of sheets/blankets/etc. I'm not sure I could go back. My wife is still nearby like in a normal king bed, but she isn't stealing all my sheets/blankets and we can have very different weight comforters on the bed.

You suck all the air out of every thread you’re in. Have you tried removing yourself from the bedroom at night?

a Dyson fan is pretty quiet and maybe will provide enough air flow over her side of the bed to satisfy her needs. Buy one where there is a return policy and try it out?

I'm going to try no humidifier (I run one on low for white noise, and turn it up for humidity in the winter) and a fan as you guys have suggested.

Mattress isn't the issue... 2 zone sleep number mattess I got from a family member + I got a tempurpedic topper. And we don't seem to be waking each other with toss/turn. But I'll ask her if a king would help over a queen (still probably cheaper than trying to heat the outdoors via open window).

Maybe I can find something that cats don't like the smell of to spray the comforter with.

You want to bring our political disagreement outside of a political thread as personal enmity? Don't be a JONG. That said, the second sentence was pretty funny, asshole.
