In high school, a friend of mine's dad killed his best friend's wife on accident while they were on a couple's hunting trip. Was taking the (loaded) shotgun out of it's case in their cabin..
A few months later, one of my classmates blew his brains out during school in front of the class. We weren't friends, but he was my science partner, a bit off-key and I remember he frequently talked about his troubles. I was down the hallway in history class when we heard a loud bang and they made us stay in our classrooms for several hours before we had police escort us down and out of the school. My history teacher was also the main HS coach, but also a veteran. I remember the look on his face as we sat at our desks and looking back, he certainly knew what that sound was. The word 'lockdown' was not a term used back then. Remember the song Jeremy by Pearl Jam? The school put in metal detectors the following year, one of the first in the country if I recall. I can't listen to the song. https://jeremywadedelle.com/#Top
I lived in Littleton when Columbine happened, managed a buffet-style restaurant that was staffed mainly by students of the school. We closed for a few weeks after the shooting because there was no one to staff it, they all lost friends. When I was going through training at said restaurant, they had me train at their Aurora HQ location, which just so happened to be the former Chuck E Cheese location where Nathan Dillon killed 4 people a few years prior.
A few years back, I was hired for a position in South Boulder, a place where I worked 20 years prior. I reneged at the last minute for various reasons. A few weeks later, the King Soopers massacre happened. When I previously worked for this employer, I frequently grabbed my lunch from that store, 3 or 4 times per week, and that would have been the same plan had I took that job as I'm a creature of habit.
Random shit huh.
