FWIW, re hellscape: yes, it is funny. But I get where he's coming from. When I drive to the office now, I pass street after street with tents and homeless. That is new in the last few years. And the downtown area that I see has also changed significantly in character, less normal foot traffic, homeless folks on every block, etc. I see it every week, and (mostly) can turn a blind eye to it. But if you left the city 3 years ago and came back today, it would be pretty shocking (unless you'd already seen how other cities are also changing this way).

Look, I am a hudge critic of TABOR, and think it is a root cause of many Colorado problems (eg crumbling infrastructure, school funding, etc). But it's not a root cause of this one, because this shit is happening all over the country.

Exactly Danno. Clearly we have homeless in Denver because of TABOR. Mystery solved! If only our state taxes were higher, then we'd solve our city homeless problems, just like California, Oregon, and Washington! OH! Wait!

    Tabor is great

the problem is politicians are too scared to ask for tax increases other than some rando feel good projects they know that will win by at least 60% margin

I'd vote to tax electric cars a yearly use tax and raise my gas taxes 50 cents a gallon tomorrow

tabor makes buercrates and lazy gov't workers and shit politicians responsible for the money they collect and spend

with tabor a poltiician just has to ask for an increase in tax revenue it's that easy
but when you look at the the miss management of CDOT who can't seem to pay their vendors who provide the bustang and Pegasus as well as other transit options
then blame being short staffed for their inablity to make payments to vendors???? well maybe their fifty layers of bullshit is getting in the way and their should be an easier way to distribute the money but gov't can't do that can they?

then look at DIA they piss away billions of dollars every year on stupid ass shit

so tax payers are suppose to trust these people who have never had to earn a dollar in their life to make good decions with what amounts to free money

Guess Douglas county doesn’t count as Denver. There’s a hotline for the sheriff’s office to report homeless and panhandling.
Coming from the Baltimore/Washington area , Denver is tame.

The (Golden) Whole Foods on Colfax is decent, tho. So you got that going for you.
But I only ever buy about 8 things there, mostly the cakes and pastries.
And you still have Bonfire Burritos.
    So all is not lost.

Oh, I'm not blaming TABOR for the homeless problem, and I apologize for it coming across like that. But fuck TABOR.

So the deputy can come out and drive the homeless/panhandler up to Centennial/Denver/Aurora?

definitely fuck TABOR. On that, I most strenuously disagree with summit and fred. Their theory relies on an informed electorate deciding things with an understanding of the "tragedy of the commons" problem.

Surely the last few years, if not the entirety of human civilization, has shown us that we don't have an informed electorate and direct democracy generally doesn't work as well as representative govt, as flawed as it is.

Sherriffs in places like Jackson, WY are known to buy one-way bus tickets for homeless people to go to SLC. And they openly admit it with a shrug of their shoulders, saying SLC has the resources to help homeless and their town does not.

    Problem solved!!

It wouldn’t surprise me…but I have never heard anyone go on the record saying it has happened. That said, we have absolutely zero homeless infrastructure, just a rescue mission which is sort of a different deal. We also really have zero homeless that stick around for more than a month without a job.
There are lots of house-less workers, though.
We did have one homeless lady named Rosie for a few years.

Lol, she was crazy, but harmless. And yes, the community looked after her. She was offered housing repeatedly, not interested. She lived under a bridge by the then new Smith’s all winter. Even in 30-40 below temps.
Curiously, she would go to California in the summer, IIRC.
    Odd.

To many tourists in the summer, even mountain town homeless don’t like tourists.

Hmm. So, not sure what is supposed to be done with someone who refuses drug/alcohol testing for a bed?
I really don't have an answer.
