What he said. We swab and test every patient coming into my ICU for MRSA, and treat them (and isolate) as said if they are positive.

And yeah, it can turn into one hell of a nasty opportunistic infection. Usually in people who are unknowingly colonized.

One week out from the first, 4 days of a bad Charlie horse at the site and headache on day one, no other symptoms. Wifey had hers on Tuesday- she had the headaches along with chills and low grade fevers 99.8 max. Woke up fine this morning except for the site discomfort. Can't wait for number two in January.

So far it (mostly) sounds less painful than the current 2 shot shingles vaccination.

My dad was able to sign up to get the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday morning. He was surprised he was able to get it so soon, but I'm relieved.

He's a 62 year old practicing Ophthalmologist in New Jersey. Pretty hard to do eye exams without putting your face in close proximity to someone else's.

He still can't find N95's to purchase though, FWIW. Fortunately for him, my previous employer had several thousand of them, and nobody I used to work with was interested in using them. And don't talk to me about that KN95 bullshit. Unless they're NIOSH certified, you might as well use a pair of fishnet stockings for a mask.

day 2 arm was more sore, but only if I pushed on the site. Soreness gone now.
I wish I woulda monitored temp, but since I didn't notice anything I assume it was fine. We didn't get antibody tests, I dunno if I ever had covid.
A couple of the other guys felt sick, got a fever, one guy said he got some hives or something.
I thought I heard the second shot was more likely to show symptoms, so we'll see, I think jan21 is my appt for #2.

N95 with NIOSH cert available here: https://mqdirect.com/collections/face-masks. Quick ship from time of order.

Not the least expensive out there, make in China.

Harley Commodity is not on the CDC list of NIOSH approved N95's as of November.
In April the CDC--not NIOSH-- tested Harley Commodity KN95's and found that 10 masks tested met or exceeded the 95% filtration standard. They noted that the respirators tested had ear loops--ie poor fit. The ones in the picture have head bands--better.

Fortunately he doesn't need more, due to the forethought of a random municipality in Washington State. He modifies his with a strap from a pair of Rec Specs for a tighter seal and more comfortable fit.

But to answer XXXer's question, yes, shortages of PPE are still a very real thing in the shithole country to your south.

Soooooo the MIL came and sat on the porch for Christmas. She then began regurgitating the batshit crazy from my SIL, ie the vaccine is the mark of the beast, Bill Gates is implanting bar codes in everyone, and the vaccine contains a chip so you will be controlled by 5G..... I bailed inside to take a healthy snort of Jamisons, and when I came back out, she got the call that her brother had died. From Covid. We are fucked.
