Somewhat upside down funky snow in spots and feeling the bottom here and there but for the most part some really good turns were had today. No instabilities noted.

SFB sure put out the white carpet for this traveler. The good were proffered and gratefully taken.

Yeah I goofed on the googles. My squinty eyes seem to make it.

Went up Grizz and skied the N Facing Patsy trees just above the saddle. Definitely punchy. Dug a quick pit about 9400 N facing. ECTN, CT3 about 30 cms down, CT16 about 70 cms down. Saw some people skiing what I thought wouldn't have been a good choice today with no movement. The Howitzer got some movement on Superior but not much else. No pics, but sun came out and made for a beautiful day.

"Human triggering (of avalanches) involves dynamic forces applied to the snowpack. As such, the mechanics are very complicated, and should not, simply be calculated by applying a model with a static load.

The dynamic problem involves both viscous and elastic deformation with time dependent loading.

Since slab avalanches release by propagation of shear fractures in the weak layer, it is not appropriate to discuss stability in terms of applied stress alone: the energy delivered to the snow pack is what matters."

Apologies in advance for the current non-stoke question, but:

Buddy and I are heading out to Snowbird on Thursday for the weekend and weighing the cost/benefit of trying to hit Park City Powdercats on Saturday.

    Pro:
Probably better snow on Saturday than Alta or Bird?
Not skiing with Saturday crowd at resort?

    Con:
    Money
Long ass drive from snowbird to PCP
Risk of it actually snowing Saturday and road closing = lost money

Anything else? They seem to have a lot of terrain, but looks like a good amount of meadow-skipping?

Heard of but hadn't looked into. About the same price/distance, any thoughts on how the two compare?

I've skied there once. It's meadow skipping. Fun tree skiing, but nothing challenging.

I'm not even pretending it's mine that's why its in quotes. It's from The Avalanche Handbook by David McClung and Peter Schaerer.

Compression tests and the like highlight weak layers and create a pit profile nicely but it does equate to the amount of force needed to trigger a slide. Topographic variability in a slope, shade, what's underneath the snow pack, micro and macro scale all are factors and in addition to the huge difference between static and dynamic load properties. To pretend a pit profile represents an entire aspect let alone a single slope is foolish.

hahaha oh man ever since I told you I couldn't understand what you were saying you have had it out for me.

That's cool really, I'll continue being a "jong" and you can continue being a middle aged man past his prime trying re live the glory days (well you don't really have a choice do ya?).

I really do enjoy the exact same style of pictures you post over and over and over of your friends doing super radical pow turns though.

Why don't you stop cunting up the stoke thread. If you don't wanna see pics of people skiing pow, stay outta the thread where people post stoke where it snows.
