Could not agree more. Truly amazing how small this city is. Really can't remember the last time I met someone where there wasn't 1 degree of separation.

While I really like Denver, I think it's hard to call it "little". While Denver proper isn't that big, just Denver metro is almost twice as big as Idaho.

never ending suburban mediocrity apparently doesn't count as "city"

Well it's more on the potential side of things. Hey I didn't say Fall River.

I suppose, but growing up I was always told that I had tons of potential & look where that has gotten me.

On the bright side, I don't smell like dead mackrel so I've got that going for me. Which is nice.

@ jgb: Well if you haven't been there for a long time stop by if you ever go to the cape. The place has changed a lot in the past 10 years. It's kinda like when Portland turned around. That place was a fucking hellhole in the old days, now it's cool. NB has turned a corner but with the recession and all, property is still dirt cheap and tons of artists and craftspeople are taking advantage of that. There's a pretty cool vibe these days.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I haven't been to New Bedford in at least 15-20 years. My father used to own a business that was based in NB (refrigerated/frozen storage) and would take me up there every now & then. In my (admittedly hazy) memory the place was a shithole. Sounds like quite a bit has changed.

Juneau AK - As long as you don't mind oppressive rain and don't have phyco exes there.

Sitka though, that place is great.

    I nominate Nevada City/Grass Valley.

Worcester, MA- best damn karaoke in the USA, lots of colleges, AIDS area warning signs(near Clark), a giant inflatable polar bear(is that still there?), Woo rats, what's not to love? Close to skiing and Boston, and the cape. Housing is cheap.

Oh, and on the serious side, I hear Santa Barbara is a must see place. Is it even a city? Isn't SoCal all one big suburb of LA or SanDiego?
I like living where the Ogdens are high enough so that I'm not everyone's worst problem.- YetiMan

Annapolis, MD kicks ass. Water, great food, fun bars, and small enough to walk everywhere

Olympia, WA was pretty cool the one time I was there.

Annapolis used to be a quite little place 20 yrs ago .
With all the high-rise condos that have been built the last 5 yrs , it's just like fucking Bethesda .
