How many of those places have salmon? I still say Seward has better skiing no lifts though.
But Ellen kicks ass - if she had a beard it would be much more haggard. -Jer

Touche! Eating wild is more important to me than where I buy beer though.

Smaller than cities, but Tofino, BC and Manzanita, OR are a few cool little places I dig.

My dad lives in Danville, CA; sweet 4th of July parade and good eats.

boarddad my wife graduated from Nevada Union in 93, we went to a wedding there in early October and I was blown away by the fall colors in town. I ate three meals in two days at the East Pine Cafe in Grass Valley, man can they cook.

Hermosa Beach CA is a great town to visit, funky and small-feeling for being in LA.

Is Jackson WY too predictable? On my short list of places I'd relocate too.

I'm going to throw in St Petersburg FL, my hometown. Cool vibe, great weather. 4 hours to skiing in SLC via Southwest airlines. Great bar scene, great place to raise kids, goodish music scene, and surrounded by water.
I like living where the Ogdens are high enough so that I'm not everyone's worst problem.- YetiMan

I'm a huge fan of Wiliamsburg, VA. History and smart college chicks.

I agree completely. I'm, after too many delays, moving west next month and have a nice house for sale near some of places mentioned. Mag price applies .

Huh? the population of San Francisco is less than a million. Not to mention that going south it's wall to wall cities going all the way to San Jose.

Translation for the humor-impaired: I made that shit up, I was goofing around.

I don't really understand your point, though.

    Impaired, yes, as usual.

Regarding my point, it's that some of the "small" cities mentioned in this thread border other "small" cities. Meaning that if you have 10 small cities bordering 10 other small cities is it really a small city?

OK, you're right. I lived in Willow Glen for 10 years, which is a part of San Jose and it certainty had a different vibe than the surrounding areas.

The Bay Area is one gigantic city from Monterrey to Sacramento.

I have lived or spent significant time in many of the places mentioned on the west coast like Portland, Bend, Napa, Santa Cruz, Hermosa Beach, North County San Diego, Beach side OC. I currently prefer small SoCal beach towns. Little further drive to good skiing but you can also fly. SoCal beach towns are timeless.

PDX almost killed me. Cool city though.

Here's a place I could live: Verona, Italy - great food, near Lake Garda and Dolomites, beautiful women, about 250k people. Ideal "city."

I've wondered about the relative merits of towns like: Rossland, Nelson, and Squamish.

This thread brings the lulz... Rossland BC vs Pittsburgh? That's like a 600:1 ratio.

    hahahaha, indeed!
54, as for relative merits of rossland, nelson and squamish, do you mean compared to other places or to each other?
And if we're talking small cities in Italy.......... wow, so many options, how about Cortina?

In the east, Asheville. Great little city up in the hills, cool in the summer not too cold in the winter. relaxed town. Gotta fly to ski, great golf and mountain biking though.

West, I love Reno. Inexpensive, close to awesome skiing and a killer airport. SF is just over 3 hours away for "culture".
