great thread, super helpful. it should be a sticky for damn sure!, esp. as it continues to fill up with more review links.

integration with marshal's tread would be too much IMO. i think that thread serves as a great quick overview guide, then you can go to this thread for more in depth individual reviews.

!!props for taking the initiative to start this!!

I'm thinking of expanding to include boot and binding reviews. You know what, if you know about a review of any kind, post it up here. This should be like an index for all of em.

You haven't added them yet, so maybe you came to the same conclusion I did, but I just figured I'd say it. Oh, and I'll work on getting some reviews for the squads and maybe ants arvs and im103s depending on how bored I am.

We're bummed you got that impression of our little reviews. We try to tell it like it feels to us when we turn 'em. We just started our newborn forum in March of '07, hoping it would be a place people could post their rants and raves about unusual or little-known ski brands.

We only got a chance to get less than a half-dozen people on some skis before Spring meltdown, unfortunately, some of us liked the skis, others did not. These skis are not the "deep powder, big mountain boards" used by most of the folks at TetonGravity...but some of them might visit a lift-serviced area and maybe venture out East someday...thought they might like to hear about odd brands...

Things people said they didn't like about the skis in their reviews:

    SPOILT RaceCarve:

    • "Trying to over-angle the ski at slow speeds results in a wash-out of the forebody or tail (depending on your stance and weighting)."
    • "Below the “engagement speed”, there is no “groove”, simply a normal skidding set of turns like any ski".
    • "I would say this ski (in its default construction – you can get it custom built if you wish) is more oriented toward the “all mountain expert carver” rather than “race-carver”"
    • "The first few turns were a little dicey. It didn't seem to want to behave at the slower speeds and actually felt a little clunky edge to edge at slower startup speeds."
    • "I would feel better about these skis if didn't feel so weird getting up to cruising altitude."
    • "Must agree with tfavro that the slow speed feel, or lack thereof, came as a surprise. Kind of like a rental ski, yikes."
    • "The "snap" that one might expect from a ski named "race carve" was not there"
    • "As tested, I thought they were a nice ski for an adventurous intermediate skier who wants to dabble in some fun carving. At the same time, riding them out to return to the lift, they were a bit skittery, which might offend the intermediate? "

    Palmer P02 Carver:

    • "Second thing I noticed was they do not appreciate being muscled."
    • "Given the deep shape, I was surprised by the overall stability, but disappointed in the lack of energy. It is just not a snappy ski. "
    • "Tyler was not impressed."
    • " I would not call it a racer & must say that I did not find it to be a supreme carver."
    Palmer P01 TwinTip:

    • "Great design, but unexciting."
    • "Nice job....just no excitement."
    • "I wouldn't want to get them up to warp speed on a hard surface...I think they'd get you unglued..."
    • "Floppy at speed cutting across the shin-deep corn waves"
    • "I tried pressuring it in the deep corn and almost went over....hard."
    • "It definitely has a speed limit and when you get there you'll know because it tends to lose its direction and becomes very unpredictable."
    • "I hope some really heavy park kid doesn't crush the thing."

If it seems like all the reviews were leaning toward "positive", it's because overall, just about everyone liked these three skis we tested.
Some things they liked, some things they didn't.

We would be happy to send you the Spoilt RaceCarves to test yourself. See if you agree or disagree with our testers' opinions.
We'd love to see what you think of the little buggers. Just PM me with shipping info for the autumn this year when the snow comes back to the hills.

We don't sell any ad space to manufacturers yet...and they don't pay us anything...and the testers don't work for any ski companies.
We didn't even get stickers from the companies...bummer.

But we did make $1.27 from Google AdSense clicks this year.

We'd love to have your own reviews of independent or unusual ski brands and improve the info for everyone. Every opinion helps! If you disagree with a review our visitors posted about a ski, write it up and tell us, maybe we totally missed the truth about a ski...post it so other skiers can hear what you have to say about these skis...skiers are going to spend real money...they should know what others think about the skis before they drop serious $$$ on their toys. Those opinions should come from a bunch of different websites and reviewers, we hope!

    Pray for snow.

    Cheers.

I just frankly didn't think that any ski named RaceCarve needed a place on the TGR link page. Try Epicski...they might be a bit more friendly to this odd obsession of yours. I mean if you're not getting paid by these guys then you are wasting your time and money skiing crap skis and not getting paid. Just because a small boutique company made them doesn't make them good...but if you are looking for good ones, try Iggies, Capital, Kingswood, PMGear, Birdo, etc. Long story short, I don't understand why you are putting up so much effort to promote these skis when they aren't even middle of the pack.

RaceCarves may not have any place at all on TGR...that's your call. We just like trying skis and letting people know what we thought of them....hence the posts. When we try some big mountain skis...we'll try to let people know about it...

You're absolutely right that just because a boutique ski builder makes a ski, it doesn't make 'em any good at all...frankly, some probably suck. We just try to list 'em and try 'em when we can get them and post what they felt like...no "promotion"...we just want to try different skis. We're itching to try them all.

Thanks for your effort to build this thread. People will find it useful.

    Hey Phill,

Your reviews are currently linked. An updated Squad review would be cool...
