    Seth Vicious Pow Day Review (and Rant)

    Finally for out on my new Seth V's today at Crystal in 18"-24" of heavy PNW powder and thought that I'd share my observations/start a rant...

    Set-up: 179 SV with P12 Lifters mounted at mid-sole mark
    Skier Stats - 5'8" / 175 lbs.

    Powder - This progressive sidecut thing is nice. These worked the powder much nicer than my 179 Pistols. They are much more comfortable running straight in the pow, yet are very easy to turn in the trees and other tight spaces.

    Soft Groomers - What the heck happened here? My Pistols were so much fun and easy on the groomers, but these are miserable! Is this the drawback to less sidecut and more progressive sidecut at that? Can 3-mm in the waist really make that much of a difference?

    Overall - These feel stiffer than the Pistols, but still very manageable and "fun". They seem to ski really short...much shorter than my 179 Pistols. I wanted something for pure Pow days that was less demanding than my V-Ex's and although I think I got close, I am thinking I should have got the 189 and mounted them forward.

    Anyhow, I'm going to give them a few more days, but the buyer's remorse is sure starting to settle in.

    groomer performance is def. compromised by the lack of sidecut - that's why the SPs are such classics for resorts where top to bottom pow is so rare (Utards excepted)...

    I think I'm just in denial. I had so much fun with my Pistols over the past few seasons, I think I was expecting more out of the SV's. After spending today on my Gotama's in more pow-pow at Crystal, I think I've just become accustomed to a slighty stiffer ski. Even at a mere 183, the Got's felt so much more stable and I didn't feel like they give up much in terms of maneuverability...plus they ski better than the SV's on groomers (although not my groomer ski of choice).

    I suppose that I should have asked if I was the only one who didn't totally dig the SV's, as it sounds like many of the Maggots/Minions dig them. It could very well be that the 189 is that much different as well.

    To sum it up, they are Pocket Rocket "fun", but not the all-mtn. tool I thought I was after. On the flip side, I dig my Got's so much more in comparison.

    I liked the SVs on groomers. Maybe you should've mounted a bit more forward?? I don't know about the SVs but the SPs boot mid was marked waaay back and you had to go at least +3 to make them manageable (I went +5.5, where seth skied his SPs, cause I do everything pro skiers do)

    I love, love my SV...best ski i've had.

    Pow=they are sick

    Crud=sick as well

    Groomers=I don't know why you didn't like them on groomers, but I can carve on them no problem.

    It's the ski that I use pretty much everyday inbounds.

    If you're interested, I have a pair of last year's SP's in 179, used four days this year, that I'll gladly trade you for your Vicious.

    Wasnt the Vicious mounting graph wrong this year? I think it was 2 centimeters off, so if you were on mid sole on the graph it was actually -2 and +2 was mid sole. Im pretty sure im right, but not 100% sure.

    It sounds like you need to BBQ a hotdog and think about what is important in life. Short Skis suck.

    Yes, but attempting to explain this generally causes mass confusion. Just go by the graph.

    also, hasnt it always been off on all seths? Vicious point about the confusion is why they keep it off each year I believe.

    Pretty sure Seth has always ridden all models at +5.

    More like the 5,000,000th. He mounts at +5, end of story.

    Edit: On second thought, go over to the K2 boards and ask Seth, I wanna see what happens...

    Thus, without expectation,

    Care to elaborate? I thought Seth skis the same skis as those available to the public...

    :-)

    Why don't you go over to the k2 site and ask him whether he skis the factory SV's? That would probably be the 5*10^6 time he hears that question

    And unless something has changed since last year, his answer will be that he indeed does ski the factory SV's - no pro-models around is the message I've heard/read.

    Hmm, I myself have seen more than one K2 factory team ski that was clearly either a prototype or a wider ski reskinned to look like a certain model. Made'n AK's (or something that looks like them) have been reskinned to look like Seth' P or V's before, as well as Hippies afaik. I think hop knows a little something about this too, but being "officially" in the know might mean that he can't really tell.

    ...I guess K2 kinda would prefer Seth to say he's on production skis all the time, whether it's true or not.

    Check the following thread for what SM skis. http://www.k2factoryteam.com/idealbb...E6AF1F1FE063DD
    On a direct question on whether he skiss off the rack skis he repliess;

    "this kind of thread has been on here before. yes i ski off the rack skis, there is no difference."

    He also says he skies maiden's on deep days. I've read something similar before regarding the SP's. I guess it is not all conclusive, the quote above. But my impression is, from what I hear and read, that he for the most part skis the factory SV's. I don't know details, and I guess the answer above is blurry enough for him to ski a lot of other stuff without being caught cold lying.

    Can't say I really care to much though

    I feel kinda stupid spending time wondering about what mr soandso hotsshot skis, but here goes: Last year SM was very clear on the k2 site that the factory ski was the one he was using as his everyday ski. Can't find the quote now, but it was clear enough for me to think that it most probably was a fact. If his most used ski was some pro-model not availablle to otheers, he would have risked being caught kissing k2's ass a little bit too much, I would think. My interpretation; he skis off-the rack skis for the most part. Things may have changed this year - dunno.

    Of course thee team riders will ski a lot of different prototypes as a part of the development of new sskiss. However, my impresssion has been that the factory sskis have been what SM uses as everyday skiss.

    The fact that Hop indicates that thiss might not be the case leavves me wondering, though...

    (gotta get a new keyboard - double ss's are bugging me)
