I’m not the one who called it an accident.

We use the term accident to indicate where something happened unintentionally. When some park rider gets jacked up because he missed the landing or over-rotated or whatever, we call it an accident. It seems to me that this is no different. When Dean Potter smashed into a rock wall flying in his wingsuit we called it an accident. Just because the act involved significant risk doesn't make it not an accident; crashing was never the intention.

    Edit: exactly what foggy said.

This is no time to be arguing semantics. Mind the gap.

What happened at Berthound Pass yesterday?

Who here didn’t try something outdoors when they were in their 20s that, if they screwed up, could cost them their life? Who here did that a lot?

    Who here still does?

This is TGR. This is what we do. I may not know much, but I know for sure that this thread is not an appropriate place for the argument over how much risk is too much risk.

Rest in peace to one of our tribe. And peace to the family and friends he left behind. Too young. Too sad.

I'm curious what roll social media may have played into his decision. I'm guessing non-zero.

    How's Tanner doing BTW?

Going big without checking the landing was my modus operandi.

    RIP skier.

Weren't you the holy defender of poor teenage accident victims against the evil avalanche risk euros in the euros thread just yesterday?

You really thrive on being the asshole in every thread and change your opinion accordingly. That's nice. I just didn't think you'd be that obvious.

On topic: ouch poor guy. The Videos of successful gaps always leave me thinking...what if?

So what if it did? Some people prefer to keep things low key, some don't. It's not like there wasn't actual media before there was social media. The goal is to get sponsored and into movies and that is the motivator. Social media is just a method to get the sponsors and movie makers to take notice. Before it was a combination of word of mouth and getting pictures to sponsors/magazines the hard way. In between there was web 1.0 with mostly websites and forums like this one. But there's always been fame and fortune as the motivator, and sex of course
I have no idea of the intentions in this case, just speaking generally

We all take risks to some degree. Others may say any skiing or mountain biking is a significant risk, but we do it anyway. However, if I hit a tree unintentionally while biking, it’s generally going to be considered an accident.

Condolences to this skiers friends and family.

Did you see the lip on the jump they built? This was a serious miscalculation. Is it also true that after he hit the guardrail he was struck by a car? If so this was a selfish act all done for the gram. Y’all need to take a step back. Sucks for his family.

^^^^Just so I'm clear, Fuck You!!!

Did I see the lip? Yeah, I drove by it twice. Decision making is one of the larger challenges of life. Seems like you think you've mastered it. Maybe just focus on that.

For me, the barometer of how to behave on a public forum in the event of an unfortunate death is, "would I say it the faces of the friend and families face". Obviously, you see if differently.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to consider a classless piece of shit.

By buttah’s logic nothing that happens with unintended consequences is an accident.

The quote from his mom in the last paragraph of that article is about as hard of a thing to read as you will find.

Rest in peace skier, and peace to those that loved him.

You’re right it was a tragic and horrible accident.

These are the kind of posts that I was giving you shit about the other day. You say something stupid and/or inconsiderate and then when you are called out on it you double down. It’s your ego getting in the way of admitting that you’re wrong.

Stupid, inconsiderate? That’s what jumping over a road is. You love sniffing my jock, douchecorn, you always have. You’re like a fucking stalker.
