Yes, it’s like telling someone that their friend that just died was stupid. That’s literally what you did in this thread and have done in others.

You’re doing it right now. Take a step back and reflect on that and try to not let your ego get in the way. It always hurts to admit we’re wrong.

He jumped over a fucking road that was open to traffic, it’s a little different than a Tyrolia binding that didn’t release when the pilot expected it to. What in the fuck?

Condolences to the community that knew him, sounds like a great guy who will be missed bigtime.

From what im reading it sounds like the conditions were just too slow that day. He had been planning the gap for a month, had to postpone for 2 weeks because of sickness, had a shitty comp season and probably thought this was his last shot at salvaging his season, and all those factors probably led to him sending it on a day where the conditions didnt line up perfectly and the run-in was too slow. Pushing past challenges/obstacles/fear is a virtue and is prized in our community, especially when you are a younger person... its tough to transition to balance that mindset with the fear of walking away from a line/cliff/gap because conditions arent good enough and leaving the "what if" on the table. Tough way to go, and im sure it will leave a hole in the community for a while.

I'm curious if this is true as well? Per the ski mag article, his mom says he did the jump to submit a video to GoPro for their Line of the Year contest. Did he time the jump so that he was jumping over a vehicle? Did the vehicle know he was doing this?

Why is it so hard for some people to have a reasonable discord about a tragic event? Sucking my own dick? What is wrong with you?

Yes, that was a difficult read.

Not sure I'd even respond to an inquiry from a reporter so soon.

This just sucks. Sorry for all his friends, family, and the WP community.

^^^ Way the eff OT, but maybe a great chance to discuss risk with your young rippers?

    RIP to young skier.

Tragic loss. Serious vibes to his family, friends, and community.

Maybe we should have a different thread about the risk-taking aspect. That being said, vibes only threads might further normalize high risk taking endeavors.

Old man talking here, for which I've been yelled at before, but it does seem that extreme sports have become normalized with the advent and popularity of social media. It used to be that some events/ rivers/ maneuvers/ athletes were more mythical and legendary leaving lots to the imagination. Nowadays even I see some of the social media vids and say to myself, when I was younger I could've probably hucked that.. ignoring the requisite skill and experience to do it with a high probability of success.

RIP Young ripper. Make the best decisions you can other young rippers.

As for Buttah, since I can't help myself, his post was blunt and insensitively worded.
The definition of accident is "unexpectedly AND unintentionally," not either or. Coming up short and hitting the guardrail is an expected possible outcome. I could go on, but even I think this is not the thread to delve into the discussion too deeply in the immediate wake of such a horrible event for the skiers, family, friends, and community.

So awful to lose a child.

I'm lucky I didn't die kayaking when I was age. It would've ruined my families lives. I have very mixed feelings about some of the risks I incurred when I was young. Again, perhaps not the best thread to get into it here.

Yeah - they're fairly level-headed skiers, TBH. Not much in the way of hucking/flippy shit (that I know of).

But I'm going to share the story with them because their mum worries.

I started this thread if people want to go there to discuss the risk element. It'd would be great to take the argument out of what is essentially a eulogy thread. Thanks.

How much risk is too much risk in extreme sports:
