Our dog starts howling when the trumpet music for the CBS Morning Show (my wife watches) somes on. It's a sound she doesn't do in any other situation. But no shits so far.

If you're still looking for other remedies, Art Shirk and I have always been fans of the "spring gun" solution.
I still think old Katko had it coming. Team Briney all the way.

Bad acid reflux. At work trying to to help people with their serious problems and my stupid small problem is causing me so much misery I can barely talk to people because I keep coughing up shit it's hard to breathe and the fires of hell are burning in my chest. And I know what to do it just doesn't work right away. Never trivializing this problem again it fucking sucks.

I hope you're seeing a doctor about this. Reflux bad enough to make you cough is serious. Acid in the lungs is bad. Medication usually works but sometimes surgery is necessary.

Recommend the surgery, but definitely get checked for other/complicating issues.
It's generally laparoscopic and I was home 36 hours afterwards. 10-14 days of liquid diet was the biggest challenge.
    Do not delay.

Reflux can cause esophageal cancer. over years People can have their esophagus examined with a scope. If the cells lining the esophagus have changed from the kind that line the intestine to the kind that line the mouth it can be a precursor to cancer and can be treated by stopping the reflux. The next stage is precancerous cells, which can still be treated without removing the esophagus. See Barrett's esaphagus.

Question repeatedly asked of all 3rd year med students--what are the 4 geese and 1 duck in the chest? (Medical humor is even worse than grandad humor.)

One of the causes of esophageal cancer is acid reflux leading to Barrett’s esophagitis.

Losing a pole basket is pretty annoying. I blame it for my bell-ringing crash on my last lap today. Whatever man....

I've already expressed my annoyance with e-scooters, and lately I've been more annoyed by e-bikes and e-skate boards.
Scooter be like ..... "you want annoyed MF, I'll show you ANNOYED!!!!": two douchebags screaming down the bike lane in the wrong direction and complete blow through a red light, full speed, no hesitation to check for traffic.
Fundemental weakness in the small battery e-transporters is no one wants to slow down and lose a lot of charge re-accelerating.

Yeah, I recently bought an ebike for commuting and it's amazing how it's expected that ebikers will blow thru stop signs. I stop and it's like a Canadian stand-off as to who has the right of way when clearly they do. I just follow traffic laws and nobody expects the bikers to do so. We just need more mtn bikers on the roads because they're more respectful and kinder than the rhoadies. But in a roadies defense, they've been run off the roads or hit, so I understand their angst as well.

EOE. Found out I had it. It was restricting the lower esophageal sphincter causing swallowing problems...I'm on Pantoprazole now.
No sign of pre cancer from a couple of biopsies

Seems like EOE is kind of the opposite of GERD and shouldn't be exacerbated by stomach acid, so I'm a little confused why you've been placed on a PPI. But I'm willing to be schooled.

Still trying to figure out my 7 month olds issue is, he’s been on PPI’s for most of the 7 months he’s been alive. Is it EOE? Is it related to a posterior tongue tie? Just terrible GERD? Help has been non-existent. Even after spending two weeks in a well-renowned children’s hospital.

He was on a feeding tube up until a few weeks ago when he pulled the tube out. He can only feed when he’s asleep, and does not take a bottle or cup or anything.

This is killing me, and has killed my marriage and my finances.

I’ve considered jumping in front of a train multiple times in the past few months, depending on how upset my wife is with me each day. Thinking of leaving my daughter though is the part that’s saved me from doing that.

My therapist has been calling to get more sessions with me; I don’t think that’s a good thing that can’t see them more often.

Currently on a parental leave until mid May. Feeling trapped at home like I’m under house arrest has been getting to me.

Wrong thread? Didn’t want to hijack Buzz’s.

    Anyway, what’s next?

Yeah, geez. Sorry to both of you. Definitely more than an annoyance. That's real life high stress situations.

Wish you both the best dealing with those issues. Try to stay positive. One step at a time.

I think it does deserve its own thread. Mainly because it might get more visibility and someone may be able to help (or have referrals/advice).

    Shit that annoys you

JohnnyG that sounds beyond awful. People (and marriages) are not equipped to handle the stress you are under 24/7 right now. Which is why your brain is entertaining all options to get out from under it. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know - just echoing that we understand how traumatic this all is - especially given how long this has been going on.

Are there pediatricians following your daughter’s progress since she was discharged? The degree of dysfunction (both in your daughter’s feeding and also its effects on the whole family’s health and ability to function) sounds extreme and all available health care resources should be rallying to support you and improve/remedy the situation as much as humanly possible.

Regarding the tongue tie, all 3 of my kids had them. Oldest would not latch, got cut and started feeding right after. Middle kid we did not get cut because tandem nursing and now she goes to speech 2 days a week. Youngest got cut after bad latch, and feeding was great. No speech issues with oldest and youngest. I know there is some controversy about tongue tie release, but from my experience worth getting it cut with laser asap. But also reads like your situation might be more complex.

That’s awful, especially non existent help part. Hope that’s a temporary condition and not a life long disability and you all pull through.

What feeding tube? Like a g-tube that connects to the to stomach through skin? Those should be taped and impossible for 7 months old to take out. My kid has one (almost nine years old, physical and intellectual disability due to genetic abnormalities). PM me if you want to know more about the g-tube. If issues continue toward delayed development and ambiguous diagnosis, get appointment with a geneticist. They can find problems at DNA level that leads to diagnosis and potential treatments.

The rest of the situation is very relatable. Hang in there. Pick your battles. Breathe. Go for a walk.

Thanks all for the words of support, I guess I just needed to put it out somewhere outside of my mind really.

He was on an NG tube, as it was only a short while. I guess “short while” in Canadian healthcare is long enough where a G tube should have been considered in other places.

Currently posting from my bathroom, with the tub faucet running trying to get him to sleep to feed this morning.

    I’ll be fine, it’s just a phase.
