2012 Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

Chally pretty fun. I waited for the three to four shift. You could see all the rocks and it was fun to try and carve smooth lines in between the talus and the shrubs. It was basically me and one other dude so your mileage may vary. Love December power hour. Sky and snow all one shade of blue/grey, cold, fun to just sit in the alpine.

Had some pics of teaching my kid to ski 9 years ago pop up.

    Chilling….

I think he chilled too hard that day and ran full speed into the snow fence when I let him off the leashes so he had to get a helmet.

Got my kid out today for his first time. It was a lot of work. How the fuck do people bring kids skiing in Denver? Blows my mind.

I'm thinking that 1 inch will be more like a foot. [emoji3] Gotta love the Big Sky trickle. I'll be there midweek, will give you a shout.

Accumulating snow just started for the day at BS. I should be out tomorrow morning and will ping you as I won't be able to make it to the moose.

Looking like mountain biking later this week.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

This thread almost makes me want to spend $$ on a BS pass for me and my kid but the cost and the drive time remain kinda problematic. Not sure how the regular folk afford to ski there with kids.

I'll remain not so patient for winter to arrive, and question my decisions for not moving back to Utah, then complain about traffic, air pollution, and crowds when I'm in Utah

Just depends on how much skiing is worth to you. It would have cost $705 total for you and the kid to buy Flex 3 passes at the discount last spring. I think most "regular folk" can afford that if skiing is a priority, but I don't know your financial situation.

Drive time? Cry me a river, you're an hour closer than me, 96 minutes according to google. Easy day trip, no need to pay for lodging ever.

IMO, if you live in southwest Montana and don't buy at least a Flex 3 pass, you're doing it wrong. It's not just Bozeman and Helena people who have figured this out. I ride lifts with many skiers from Billings and Missoula during the early and late season. It's a good deal if you want to ski when most other areas are closed. This year hasn't been great obviously, but at least it's skiing. Some days have actually been pretty good.

Anyway. It's been snowing all morning at Great Divide, I'm going to skin up.

I am bummed with my flex 3 only because I got it late after the discount and I haven't been able to go yet and the 15th is fast approaching. Still cheaper than buying tickets at the hill though!

Good advice, I hadn't really considered that or really knew it existed. That's pretty damn affordable, and probably will do it next year given how this year has played out so far. The late season skiing is pretty appealing at a place like Big Sky. I'm new in Montana again, after 30 years away, so trying to figure things out again.

I'm working per-diem in Bozeman/Urgent Care now just to spend the $$ on ski trips/gear, and pay medical expenses. My insurance spent about $1million on me last year. What was affordable before has since been redefined despite having a good career.

Off topic, but I will say long and short term disability saved my ass financially. The benefits of employment are a huge deal. Things you take for granted in a benefit package turn out are sometimes needed, and when they are, they become critical.

Super stoked your late Nov scan was all clear. Buy an early late next year and prioritize April. Staying around big sky is super easy. The hungry moose is rad. Once they see you a bunch they give you coffee and employee discounts. I'll have a Huntley hot tub pass next year, def worth soaking and picking up trim apres.

    Investment idea.

Locker room in the meadow on the bus line.
    1. Rent some shitty commercial space, cram a bunch of lockers in and rent them, profit like a JH techie.
    2. Rent some decent commercial space, put in some lockers, a spot for boot driers & limit the numbers. I heard a LMS locker was north of $ 1000.00 a season these days and sold out. On the bus line from the meadow, close to easy parking?
