The latest Mercedes wagons have S-class style interiors. The w212 is more austere. The W211 wagon took interior styling from the S-class as well. As did earlier W124. In that respect the W212 was an outlier. It’s still nice.

Well said. I agree 100%. Now as to the exterior functionality, I have become quite spoiled by my LED headlights. WTF?! How come nobody has ever told me how insanely good headlights could be?! The way the lights bend when you turn the steering wheel and how it lights up your turns when you put your blinker on. Goddam! These things are AMAZING! And my car's 8 years old! MB was (is?) clearly light years ahead of everybody else in this department. I am flabbergasted at how unreal these babies are.

Huh, I can never get enough light when I drive so I may need to look at that down the road. I need to investigate a light bar for the Cayenne as I want more light.
For me it's not so much the volume of light it's what it illuminates. I want more light on the road but not as bright up close as fogs are. I always feel like I'm overdriving my lights and missing pavement problems and where mild corners start.
Not quite a wagon, but thought this might appreciated here. I almost popped on this but just don’t have room in the stable at the moment.

Oh, you HAVE to check 'em out. Now that I've gotten used to them, it's a non-negotiable feature I'll demand for my next car. They are THAT good. Just absolutely crystal clear.
Yup. Not just about sheer brightness. It's HOW everything's lit up and that's where these lights are top of the pack in that department.
With everyone these days focusing so much on HP ratings, 0-60 times, and Nürburgring laps, we too often forget about the things that REALLY matter. Like seeing where you're going. Haha. So get this, evidently thanks to backwards US "safety" regs, the US MB's were a bit neutered as to not give us the full functionality the Euros get, BUT I just learned on a Benz forum that it can be unlocked via software. FKNA!!!
This is what I'm talking about. Check this video out. It's freaking insane:
This is also worth a watch:
The way it blocks the beam of the car IN FRONT of you is a trip to see in action. I wish was a standard feature in new cars. Would be a welcome departure from the constant blinding from brodozers with their brights on in my rear window.
Tons of PB Blaster, an impact wrench, a breaker bar, and a lot of patience. Volvo brakes are burly, but on the plus side mine lasted freaking forever! Which also meant that all the hardware was seized up something fierce. They're not rocket science or anything. Mine were just a bitch to get the old caliper bolts out mainly. Reassembly was a piece of cake tho.

A "HIGH SCHOOLER?!" You kidding? You in Beverly Hills or something? Haha. That car's pretty fly for just about anybody! I miss that body style with its reasonably sized kidney grills and what not. Seriously tho, I see what your saying. At its price point, that IS cheaper than what many are ponying up for their kids' cars these days. I woulda killed to have something like that in HS. Think of all the shenanigans and hijinks with all that space!

Akebono's are fantastic and I recommend them as well, but I went with the PowerStop performance setup and they've lasted marvelously with great stopping power. I actually had the XC70, but same setup as the 90 depending on the year. No drum e-brake, but it had the motorized parking brakes which were surprisingly easy to deal with thanks to the power of YouTube tutorials.![]()
"Akebono." Love saying that name.
I'd like to introduce you to my two boys, Akebono and Ferodo.

shhhhhh, the internal plastic parts will begin cracking if you speak of true age & miles. Swear to God I called our old b5 a4 an old hag once, and the coolant expansion tank promptly cracked out of spite!
then this happens at work, confirming my desire to lower the v90 an inch

That's because those BMWs are monster pain in the asses. Build quality dropped significantly from the e34/e39 days, and the n55/n54 motor in those is highly problematic.
We had the non turbo version a few years back, very nice car, huge pile of shit. So many fucking problems with EVERYTHING.
Steering angle sensor dusty requiring complete disassembly of steering column. Check.
Radiator failure. Check
Water pump/thermostat failure. Check.
Valve cover gasket. Check.
Oil pan gasket. Check. Don't forget to take apart the front suspension and drivetrain to access that sucker...
Air suspension. Check.
Tail light. Check. But wait, the bulb is fine, it's the harness up under the roof and you need to disassemble entire lift gate hahahahahaha
Window sensor so it won't close... check.
Sunroof shenanigans. Check
And on and on and on...
sigless.
Damn many BMWs and nothing close to that until about 200k. My wife's 2012 335 did require 2 AC condenser replacements which was likely really expensive but covered by the warranty.
