so... strongly considering signing up for this....been watching this crew the past several years, and the planets appear to be aligning for me...trying to get some other buddies to join, but I may just go alone and get to know y'all...

Right on mag, you'll be welcome.
I was a lone wolf last time and it was excellent. Made friends in about 5 minutes flat and everyone's so stoked to be there.
It's actually very casual and easy going.
Not the charge, charge, charge like at my home mountain.
C'mon, it's your turn to ski the Swiss alps with us.
DJongo your stoke and Yurp skilership experience in particular has made this choice a lot easier...I read your JH posts and always wish i was stepping into the tram line for a big day... Im going to hold off just a bit more, and my skier wife is "accepting" me going solo "this time"...just want to keep pushing a few good buds that I am working to convince to join, for now, consider me "in" and hopefully will have at least one other, though I know if I end up freeballing on this trip I would have a great time.
Really Can't Wait
Sick! Super jealous!

I think the knob where the visible tracks start is called Nual.

This thread is dope!
This thread is awesome! Would love to do this trip.
Already mentioned: cancelled, bad, late flights SEA<->DEN 2x, shafted for baggage fees on returning through SFO. Shitty agents, bad attitude flight crew.
Check your baggage fees etc, one usually gets what one pays for.I found a good deal thru United, by Swiss Air for across the pond, $600 cheaper for the exact same flight than when booked thru Swiss Air
Admittedly, because Air France doesn't have a flight SEA->ZRH landing before 17:00, I booked Delta for that leg. It's about $950 comfort+ SEA<->ZRH. The AF flight crew slays me.
Here's a bunch: https://www.kayak.com/flights/SEA-ZR...t=bestflight_a, but add baggage fees.

Thanks, iI was too lazy to search. Sounds horrible on all accounts
What carrier went to Zurich?
I searched Swiss Air and noticed that the US legs were by United. So I search United, and the exact same flight numbers came up on United's site.
United/Swissair and Delta/AirFrance are codeshare partners.
Buster, does your flight go through SLC? Are we on that flight over too?
Thanks Scooter for the kind words. It was a really great experience for me and I really hope more mags, like yourself, see the value in the personalized setup and a killer place to do it for relatively cheap. Skiing and a train ride is like $55-60 a day.
It's very cool having your own dinner and breakfast set up for you in house. The bar is fairly private and there's a comfy area where ski flicks get played and merriment is made.
Some pics:
The train stop above the Lodge in Rueras.
Looking down into town of Rueras. Lodge is about 4 rooftops down, in center.
Church bells every morning at 5 am iirc.
Get to work.
Sweet local map of the valley at the station.
View heading to Rueras on the big train from Zurich.
3+ hours of sights on the train with some nice beverage options.
Midday train was pretty sparsely populated and right on time.
Switch to the smaller gothardbahn in Goeschenen and a short trip into Andermatt.
Stream right through middle of AM@.
Andermatt main drag. We hoofed it about 10 blocks cuz we could. Easy roll to the Gemstock tram.
Top station of a T bar at Disentis.
I’d potentially be interested in one of the big objectives if that starts to take shape.

Definitely best to get a small group together like Zion zig zag , Chriscam and friend did. Guides over there are much more willing to take you at your word for skill and objectives.
Will keep you in the loop, but it may be a spur of the moment depending on conditions.
Nope, SEA->AMS, then AMS->ZRH with hopes that customs at Schippol is reasonable.
That's kind of an understatement?

The marketing department really stepped in up as of late in this thread. I've said it before but the reasons to go to Europe are
Big Terrain
Big Lifts
Skiing Culture (including food & drink)
Don't expect or want the North American Resort Experience. DJ brought up the casual pace. I guide friend in La Grave says you go skiing at 10. At 9 there is a line up for the lift. You hang out, have a coffee, then go!
Halfway down the left Giraffe.

Some of the lame terrain at Corvatsch, St. Moritz. Say the word and vendul will organize a day trip.

Can't make it for what would be my fourth visit to vendul's (fifth if it hadn't been for COVID) :-(
Already have a trip scheduled, touring in the Lyngen Alps. :-)
But for the rest of you, have a great time, and NO excuses backing out this time guys!
Last year despite all the dire warnings re: conditions, Carvehard, GaryfromAmerica and I still got plenty of pow turns in.
Hey Tri-U, did you ever explore the idea of tele rentals?
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy
I did not, always bring my own skis. The only thing I've ever rented in Yurp was a Mammut avy canister in La Grave, 'cuz I couldn't bring it on any flight.
Vendul can likely get you hooked up though, he's pretty savvy. Disentis has plenty of rental agencies that almost certainly carry tele skis.
And I usually bring my ski pack as my carry-on, along with a smaller bag for under the seat. I have brought ski boots in-cabin as well (on top of the pack, loop the boots around your neck with the power straps), and haven't been dinged for it. In the worst case scenario, if they give you a hard time, I suppose you could always walk onto the plane with your ski boots and switch once you get aboard. You could even go full GSA and wear your helmet with 3 GoPros attached.
Bring a lightweight pair of shoes nonetheless, that you can pack in your ski pack during backcountry/sidecountry tours, as they can be waaay worth it in the case that you have an extended walk out (not uncommon at the end of the day).
I'm just going to throw out here that I'm open to share a double room with a TGR mag to save some bucks....going to book flight in the next couple days....
