    it's time to get rid of private power and water. My wife, who was involved in having the PUD take over our evil private water company at Donner Lake is now helping some folks in a private water company area in socal--owned by the same asshole who owned ours. They've had no potable water since march. Well pumps are without power, I assume due to flooding. The private company hooked them up to an irrigation system so they have water to flush but nothing else. No water being trucked in and no bottle water being supplied. They still have to pay their monthly bill and the PUC just let the company raise their rates. Meanwhile the private electric companies doing their best to burn down the state.

    Shit that annoys you

    I was walking through the Salt Lake airport and there was a cop walking around who was easily 350 pounds, in shorts and mall walker sketchers, with his gun holster unstrapped. I’m not sure we are getting the best people.

    One summer the Truckee PD used a PWC to patrol Donner Lake--ridden by a very overweight 50 something cop with the whitish, dead-fishest legs I've ever seen. Nowadays though, it seems like their a lot fewer obese cops and a lot more who spend serious time bulking up in the gym, which may explain the roid rage. I don't see the purpose of all those muscles if they're just going to shoot.

    Friend of mine had a TIA over the weekend.

    He was the positive, male role model I needed when I was younger and has become a drinking buddy as I grew older. Lived a hard life, got his shit together and earned the graduate degree when his children were born, was fucked over by corporate consolidation in the last decade, and was less than 5 years from having everything paid off and retiring.

    I'm in the angry part of grief, I missed our whisky the last time we were home because I was so stressed out from dealing with family. Should have gotten over myself and made the effort.

    Owned by national company (Sempra Energy) that is headquartered here. Public company.

    We already have the highest electricity rates in the country and they are continually applying for rate increases, which always seem to get approved. They have been especially bitter that solar has allowed people to reduce their bills and have been fighting for changes like minimum charges to eliminate financial savings from solar which reduces their profits.

    My usage last month was 207 kWh and I don't see the minimum charge adjustment but I'm on a "Community choice aggregation" plan which might be different from whatever 406 is on. I'm sure it's buried in the bullshit somewhere.

    TIA? I.e. stroke that completely resolved? If so that is potentially treatable to prevent a more serious stroke, depending on the cause. And something that I hope is being dealt with ASAP. PM me if you want to know more.

    Yeah, very serious, but very manageable.Do wish they called them incidents instead of accidents, though. Did we have this conversation before?

    On a related note: OG, what's it called when you suddenly become aware that you have no recollection for what you were doing for the last 5-10 minutes but apparently continued to function almost normally (pretty annoying/scary)? Had several of those a while back but none since going on hypertension meds.

    TIA=Transient ischemic Attack

    I think what you're talking about is amnesia. Do you have an evil twin? But seriously, I don't know what you'd call it--it is technically a form of amnesia I guess although that is usually applied to things like concussion where you can't remember what let up to the injury--retrograde amnesia--or what happened for a period of time after --prograde amnesia. Whatever it's called it's happened to me. The most dramatic was when I was in college and drove from Lorain to Toledo on the Ohio Turnpike--about 2 hours as I recall and didn't remember a minute of it, alhtough I was aware enough to get on I75 in Toledo. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I think as we get older we do a lot of routine stuff on autopilot while thinking about other things. The only way I can remember if I brushed my teeth is to see if the toothbrush is wet. I doubt your antihypertensive had anything to do with stopping it.

    A=Attack?????? Excellent!

    Definitely feeling the auto-pilot/memory glitches but those are momentary. The extended ones are something else. Mine were driving with my wife in the car for about three miles in residential home ground and coming out of it when my wife asked me why didn't turn at the stop sign after stopping , and skiing in a storm at a resort where I wasn't real familiar with the terrain - had to just follow other peeps hoping that sooner or later I'd recognize something (I did). Functional black out?

    Haha, so after logging in to my SDGE account yesterday to see if the minimum charge was there I get a customer satisfaction email today asking about my "interaction"

    Getting disoriented in a white out doesn't count. As far as driving with your wife, undoubtedly you turned your brain off while she was talking. Also doesn't count.
    I do 90% of my driving alone. When I'm driving with people I frequently will drive on autopilot (human autopilot, not a Tesla) and wind up going the way I usually go, even if it's the wrong way, out of habit. There may be some brain aging in all of this, but I think it's mainly that old people have more deeply ingrained habits.
    If I'm finger picking a tune on guitar and get stuck there's no way I can remember how to get unstuck in a song I learned 50 years ago, but if I start over my fingers know.

    While I've experienced all of the issues you mentioned, the two incidents I described were not the same. Not going to belabor the point any more, as it's been 25 years since the last one.

    Yeah, I wasn't saying the issues were the same--just saying that the brain sometimes does weird harmless things and that our subconscious brains seem to be able to carry on while the conscious part is disconnected. For that matter, the conscious part often gets in the way. Do feel free to elaborate if you want--it really interests me (but maybe not anyone else here).

    And about driving--it's obvious that most drivers are thinking about something other than driving most of the time. Just watch them.

    Assholes. As in asshole people.

    Life would be so much better if it wasn't for these people. All the passwords, authenticators, security codes, accounts temporarily shut down, tsa crap. All the annoyances in everyday living is because of assholes like Putin at the top and host of assholes below.
    Fuck all of them.

    Public agencies who still post emergency or immediate interest information on X/Twitter and no other location now that that shithole website requires a log in to view the information.

    Can't we all just get along.
    Problem is, we seem to have branched off from a pretty feisty branch of the primate order, but it would be nice if we were more like bonobos than chimps.

    Same applies to facebook et al. Public information should be posted on public websites; if they want to post on social media as well fine.

    Whenever I see a Raptor or Ram or whatever, I pretty much assume they are going to drive like a douche.

    Just today I come up on a long line of cars going below the speed limit. The truck in front of me has a big gap in front, so I easily pass him. This somehow besmirches his manhood so he floors it to get close to me, and swerved out in the left lane and starts honking. OK?I catch the next truck in front of me, and pass him because he’s going slow as well. Then the truck that freaked out doesn’t pass that truck.
    You know at this stage this happens pretty often, (I drive 35K miles/year), and I just assume they’re just illiterate jackasses

    ^ What sucks is that a couple people deciding not to pass a slow driver sort of fucks everyone behind them. It's a lot easier to pass one car than a whole lineup of cars.
