Billy is a great musician and I'll pay to see him if he shows up around here, but there are a lot of great bluegrass musicians so the nickname annoys me, a little. (AFAIC Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder are at the top of the heap, FWIW,)

Yes, Ricky is the best. If you like bluegrass and have never seen him and Kentucky Thunder you need to go. Followed closely by Marty Stuart.

I-80 across southern Wyoming is a 300 mile long traffic jam of truckers blocking the passing lane going 1/10th of a mile an hour faster than the slow lane.

Last week I broke the side mirror on my car by backing out of a tight parking space and hitting the mirror on the car next to me. I've never done that before and I partially blame the backup camera. Back in the old days I would have been watching my mirrors more! In any event the glass is fine and most of the assembly is fine except the mounting plate that secures the mirror to the door fitting is broken. Looked up the part and of course you pretty much have to buy an entire new mirror assembly. Honda has the balls to charge almost $500 for it. Knockoffs are in the $100 ball park. I've got the mirror off the car and I'm going to try to glue it back together, but I don't have a lot of confident that's going to work. I have a feeling I'll be buying a replacement part, but I'm sure as hell not paying $500 for the Honda OEM!

Here's a photo. If anyone has any experience with this please tell me if I'm wasting my time trying to glue it. Such bullshit that a part worth probably 50 cents is the only thing that failed, but I'll need to spend over $100 for a new mirror.

My other thought was to JB Weld the plastic mounting plate onto the metal plate for the mirror. Right now it is held in place by three screws. That wouldn' t affect the ability to remove the entire mirror from the car so not sure there's even a downside to that although it wouldn't fix the root cause which is that this mounting plate is broken. Fucking cars...

Done that more than once with a beater dodge Dakota I owned. I went through the whole price shock for OEM, the no way I’m paying that for Dorman and the junkyard want how much !?! Thing.

I decided it was worth trying to fix (simple jagged crack like your’s) and after a little research settled on a gorilla glue (super glue works too) and baking soda and it was amazing! It held up like it was brand new. Baking soda apparently accelerates the time it takes to set and dry.

Apply glue, sprinkle with baking soda and hold/clamp pieces together for a few minutes then let it cure for 24 hours. Should be good to go.

Until I backed the truck into the same over hanging branch and busted the farging thing again. But I used the same concoction and it held up for two more years when the frame fell apart.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

If there was ever an appropriate use for duct tape on a vehicle, side mirrors are it.

That's good to know. I didn't use the baking soda, but it's glued up and I'll try putting it all back together later today. Hope it works! At least now I know how to disassemble the whole thing if I need to do it again.

And, yes, I've got a roll of duct tape at the ready.

A frickin' rig took off my left mirror on the notoriously narrow downtown street here, I was foolishly in the right lane that is known to result in a missing mirror if there's a ton of rig traffic, which there was b/c Glenwood Canyon was shut down so they reroute all the rigs through downtown Steamboat (also annoying).

Painters tape and then a nice wrap of electrical tape worked for me for a solid two years in heat and extreme cold, and since the mirror assembly was black you couldn't really tell unless you knew.

I finally scored a used one at a junker to replace and didn't have to deal with duct-tape smegma when I removed all the tape.

Depending on the plastic housing, the Gorilla glue could make it look more obvious by turning the plastic white or a shade of grey, if you care at all about aesthetics. YMMV.
