Surprisingly fun at PTOV today and completely empty. Big shoutout to MokoMahonah for the ticket hookup!

We were at Mammoth the last few days and while conditions didn't last as long today, my mom and I both found conditions were better here, despite the higher temps and lower elevation. I think overnight lows dipped a bit lower than forecast maybe? (I think it said 40 for last night at PTOV 7500ft, but I saw 36 on our outdoor thermometer at Tahoe Donner at 6400 ft at 8 am). Hadn't seen Sun Bowl and Bullet groomed before and they were skiing great. More generally it was super nice sampling the groomers with literally nobody around for a change.

We called it around 1pm, but mostly because my mom was getting tired; It looked like N/NW facing shots off Headwall and KT were holding up. I imagine the next few days will get rough with the overnight freeze increasing another few degrees but I'm semi-hopeful there will be at least an hour or two of good skiing in the morning.

    ^Nicely done TBC!!!

Meanwhile back at the resort…I scored a single run at The Star today as I was on hill doing some mellow manual labor.
Skiing the race course (aka “Surprise”) which hadn’t been touched since Sunday was grand. Glorious sweet corn and giggles all the way down with my two co- workers.
I thought about hiking back up for seconds, but free pizza and beer courtesy of the boss won out.

Taking some young skiophytes out for a mellow tour on Saturday and then hope to close Rose on Sunday…

    Re: Palisades B2B Gondola:
I was at OV on Monday with Corky and his lady. The ‘dola was on wind-hold all day.
I finally got a look at it from the top of KT and my first thought was “what’s the point of this thing?” I didn’t follow the construction of it or all the hype and controversy, but it seems like it would have been better had it gone across the ridge and had a stop at “Beaver” or “Estelle’s” and then down to the base of AM. As it stands now, it only seems cool if you take it from AM and get off at the top of KT. Taking it from OV to AM just seems like the Disneyland Skyway (touristy).
But what the hell do I know, anyway?

Only for those of us who knew what to look for . It was good meeting you on the ridge today. We got two lovely hard pack runs because we were freaked out from the SAC forecast and assumed every aspect would be fried by 11. Still fun...just not as fun as what you got!

First time touring from Carson Pass and it showed. Now hopefully we'll be a bit more patient next time.

I'll be there at 9:30 this AM. Hoping for a few good hours.

C'mon... that gondola was totally worth the money over something stupid like expanding parking or repairing infrastructure (High Camp). Out of the 80 days this season I rode it over once from AM to grab a drink at Rocker. Totally worth it. To be fair I was going to ride it once more from OV to AM to show some friends around, but we bailed at the top of KT because the wind was up and we didn't want to be pinned down at AM with a car at OV.

Good corn above 8K around 9am this morning on open slopes. Anything in the trees was punchy mush.

No car shuttle, i went up Jake's, from the small pullout about a mile north of emerald Bay. Easy skinning, 1h45 minutes

Cool to meet ya! Always fun to put an actual face and name to a screen name you have seen for years.

I climb a little of couloirs, mostly on France.
Booting up it's around, 1000 ft an hour, if i can skin around, is 1400 for me.
But, if i climb it,i know the conditions.
Obviously this didn't apply to emerald Bay chute, it's pretty mellow.

It was so good inbounds today - this heat is what you need for ch10 to soften

TAHOE 22/23 -THE YEAR OF THE (t)RAM

Is that Round Top? Hard to tell from this angle and snowpack.

I ask because I 4-pointed up the dogleg couloir in conditions like this with no crampons, basic leather gloves from the hardware store, a flannel shirt, while tripping on acid.

I’ve skied RT a bunch, but only that stupidly once.

Every time I see it, I remember “becoming a bug.”

I had to kick in my toe holds and carve out my finger holds.

    Fucking gripped. But somehow not.

    1996?

You guys have an all-time spring season. Holy shit.

I didn't. I look at OS on desktop and have all-access so maybe I don't see ads.

I'll likely end up at Rose tomorrow for closing day.
It's Local Sunday, so $59 lift tickets for anyone tired of skiing Vailco.

Snow held up a lot better than expected at PTOV today despite the heat. Thought we wouldn't last past 11, but ended up skiing until 1pm. If I was solo I probably would have continued longer; N and W facing steeps were still fun and not too sticky on our last run. Is hero slush a thing?
