    23/24 Gear Rumors

Don’t know if they’ve been mentioned in here, but I demoed the 2024 Nordica spitfire and steadfast and ordered the steadfast for work. It’s got two cores stacked on top of each other with a sheet of metal and rubber in the middle, so there’s a sheet of metal that splits the sidewall too.

    Looks wonky, skis amazing.

Ahhhhh, I thought the rocker looked a bit much. Interested to see what these turn out to be, don't think they're the Crescendo.

That’s some pretty wild tech. I looked at the work book on issuu and they make 3 different versions. The one you showed, one with metal top and bottom sheet and rubber in between the cores and one with no metal, just rubber. I wonder if it works well in the carving skis if they will try it in wider platforms?

Might want to figure out why so many of their employees ski boots that don’t say K2 first..:

Yeah I only tried the triple metal version, I am going to use them as my new teach/train/poodle ski. The reason I went with the steadfast instead of the spitfire was 2 reasons:

1: they’re 85 underfoot, but full nerd ski design. I ski in Montana snow, I don’t need an ice skate, and don’t wanna boot out on soft groomers.

2: the metal is tapered out at the tip and tail, so they’re able to wash out if you go too far forward or backward, either on purpose or accident. That seems nice and versatile, yet also a little forgiving in funky snow. I tried to out ski them and couldn’t as long as I was centered. PLUS if I wasn’t centered, the tip or tail would slip, so it’s kind of a feedback tool on balance.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder what the unleashed would feel like if it had the 1 middle layer of metal and rubber, compared to current construction.

you'd think they'd take the time to smooth the sidewalls out?

Pretty sure Atomic used a similar construction to the Nordica middle metal layer way back in time. IIRC they called it Bionic.

The Atomic Backland XTD is the big one, there will be a stiffer version of the Fischer Transalp, the Scarpa F1 XT will be available in the US I think, Dynafit Tigard is heavier. Anything else?
To me for downhill performance to weight ratio, zero g tour pro still reigns supreme…

That's because you haven't tried the hoji 130. Skis better, heavier but tours better

Anybody have any info on the new 50/50 boot from Nordica? I'm in the market for something like an XT3 except without the janky walk mode connection

The scarpa quattro probably has it beat. If it fits you. Feedback has been that it skis and walks better, which I agree with. Weighs very close to the same depending on size. Impressive because I'm with you, the zero g is a fantastic boot.

Too bad the Quattro has a Gripwalk sole instead of a real AT sole. I guess I’m unsure how much of an issue that is, 90% of time I’m skinning, but I hate to have the sole be a liability when I am booting and scrambling in sketchy terrain.

As a Quattro owner, I haven’t had any issues with the GW sole at all. It does feel kind of “weird” but I‘be never thought it was unstable or made for bad footing. IDK if I’d want to climb 5th class in them, but I don’t really want to do that in any ski boot.

    23/24 Gear Rumors

Anyone get a chance to try on the Nordica Unlimited 130?

Hoping for another low volume touring option with a nice heel pocket.

THIS. I talked to the Nordica reps yesterday at the Mission demo and they didn't have much information on them. Seems like these have largely gone unnoticed by this collective

Also curious about the new Dobies. P. 46-49 below.

Edit to add: The 96 last specifically; looks like more competition for the Lange RS 140, etc.

Shame the last on those things isn't great unless you have the exact foot shape that works with them.
TLDR; Ski faster. Quit breathing. Don't crash.

Hmm, a little heavier than I hoped.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
