Worshed is definitely a thing in Washington state as in Worshington.

I think it was a hard scrabble east of the Cascades thing that made all the transplants think they should say it to sound local, but I don’t really know.

Crick, creek, worsh, wash, New Awwwlins. You better be really fucking genuine and it roll right off your tongue with a bunch of other dialectical oddities or you look the fool.

power outage at the hospital I work at yesterday

the surge when it came back on appears to have fried the main circuit boards on both treadmill EKG machines

    that’s fucking convenient
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

You'd think that a hospital would have things on surge protectors.

I grew up with all of my extended family from the midwest (mostly michigan) saying Warshington, and Salmon (but pronouncing the L).

The Michigan accent amuses me. More so now that I actually can *hear* it after 30 years of not living there.

    It’s one word: Nawlins.

Have definitely heard "warsh" plenty, but can't recall ever hearing "salmon" pronounced with an L. One I've heard a few Michiganders say that I've always found strange is "ompen" for open. And of course "melk" instead of "milk."

The old guys here say Worshington. I said ompen before we moved to the west coast and the other kids beat it out of me.

    Shit that annoys you

As someone who’s cradle to the grave midwestern, I’ve never heard ompen.

    Or….maybe I just can’t hear it….oof

I'm certain it came from my mom - born & raised in WI. I was born in Chicago, but didn't stay long enough to get the accent.

Coworker from Ashland OR has just a slight western drawl with a few words but otherwise neutral pronunciation.

Except... he pronounces "favorite" as "favorint" with fuckn very obvious letters N and T. So strange and jarring.

for some dumb reason I say “crik” instead of “creek” - I don’t even know how or where I picked it up but there it is

And how do you say the top of your house: roof or ruf?

I find crik and ruf often go together

My father in law gave me shit for saying ruf
    And yet he said tourlet
    And pizzer
    And soder

He was Archie bunker. And yet I still ended up marrying Gloria.

    Dialects still exist.
    I find them entertaining
