Heavenly can be real fun if you like side country and the snow is down near lake level. All you need is for Stagecoach to be open and a relatively short bootpack to the gates. Oh, and taxi service or taking turns driving everyone back to the chair. Maybe I shouldn't even post this, the less people that know the better. The worst thing Heavenly did was putting in the exjit gates and make skiing OB legal. Way more crowded now, but still fun.

Mentioned already... Northstar is actually pretty awesome on a storm day. Some of the best tree skiing anywhere.

The top of bachelor, targhee and schweitzer are all tied for the worst visibility i have ever encountered. I have gotten motion sick on all three, and have also fallen over a whole bunch at all three while standing still or barely moving. I have also managed to jump turn directly into snowghosted trees that i didnt know were there at 2/3. Still have a lotta love for those places when its storming.

There is a correct answer to this thread title, but im not spilling the beans.

Nah, our patrol is way too slow opening terrain to be considered the best storm skiing resort. On big days you're lucky to get on the T bars by noon, and with only half the terrain.

Someone said Red Mountain upthread, and that is the correct answer.

It just occurred to me that we should be asking ChaseBrooklyn the OP's question. Clearly he knows which mountains spin chairs, or at least the ones that don't, during storm days.

Got concussed skiing in white out conditions down Powder Bowl at Crystal. Some pisten bully driver decided to put in a snow bank on skiers right. Hit it at a good speed. Had no idea which way was up until my head augered in. Probably slid 40 yards. Full yard sale. Stars and tweety birds and a massive brain freeze type headache. Sat there for about 15 minutes before I collected myself and stupidly drove home.

I'm surprised revy hasn't been mentioned more (at all?) in here. A proper storm day there is tough to beat. 6k vert through great trees with good terrain.

As mentioned, Red and Whitewater each have fantastic tree skiing.

Taos is also worthy of mention, especially if one allows the Ridge hits like Trescow.

Of course, it is uncrowded, steep and usually covered in pow.
Not sure if I would have fun at Silverton in a storm without a guide. But, having someone continually point me in the right direction made it pretty easy, and for all the reasons you mentioned.

Honest question, how often is the skiing good from top to base at Revelstoke? I've only been once and while the upper mountain was great the lower wasn't exactly dreamy - easily could have been an off week but it seemed like the base was pretty low elevation. Would be really stoked to ski the whole thing on a storm day though.

I've never skied Revelstoke, but I've skied a lot of mountains like that. Any mountain with that kind of elevation gain it can be expected, and I wouldn't necessarily hold it against them. Alyeska, Jackson, Whistler Blackcomb, etc. All great mountains, but yeah, the lower sections can get a little soggy during storms while the uppers are all time.

Funny you say that....on my one trip to Bachelor, I lucked into a storm day. The top was ski by braille. But I had a TON OF FUN (one of my favorite ski days ever) in the trees between Outback and Northwest lifts. The mini-golf boing, boing, boing terrain there makes it one of my favorite (maybe THE favorite) place I've been...a bunch of snow (and soft landings and soft crashes) just made it even more funner!
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

I've skied two storm days at Revelstoke. The first the snow was great from top to bottom (blower up top, heavier down low, but all good). The second day the snow up top was great but the bottom was mashed potatoes - so I just lapped the Ripper and Stoke chairs all day and had a blast. Definitely one of my favorite resorts on any type of day.

I'm not a local up there, but in the ~10 times I've skied there, I've had good top to bottom skiing once. So my guess would be a handful of times every season. But even if it's only good 2/3 of the way down, that's still 4k vert.

Whitewater is the correct answer here. Best storm vibes I've encountered.

Revy as well has trees spaced out just perfectly enough you'll feel like a goddamn hero charging through them. It's as if the gods themselves plucked just the right ones for our pleasure.

Ajax + Highlands also can snow a lot and not really have anyone there. Fresh tracks all day long.

Hope to be testing that WW theory next weekend for a few days.

Nice! Even with just a little bit of fresh snow, that place is a lot of fun.

Pretty similar to what my wife and i did first week of march 2020. Fell in love with WW and Nelson. Long term plan is to get a house in Nelson.
