Best of luck today moving cement 💪 at least it's only today before we get a break 36 hours of this would have been brutal
We set a skin track in at Luther just now. 34 F, snowing hard, about 5” of skiable pow on top of a 6” saturated layer. It was a trip down memory lane to all my shitty pow days in OR & WA.
" shitty pow days"--oxymoron of the year (and just in time)
Did a preemptive blow off the driveway to clear the first 4” of heavy saturated snow out of the driveway this morning. Discovered my side of the street and the end of my driveway has 4” of decomposed granite on it that washed down from above. Spent forever shoveling that shit up. If the plow driver doesn’t gate my driveway I’m gonna have the berm from hell!!!
Decided to top off my blower gas and my car at the Y, total chaos down there, 50 is closed for the foreseeable future and i barely got back up my street to get home.
Fireplaces are cranking in preparation for the power to go out.
Party time!!

Whitehall evacuated.
Carson Pass temporarily closed, not sure where all the diverted drivers from 50 are going to go.
Happy New Year’s Eve. Let the shitshow begin
Pushing 3’ at 7.7k top kbury……I’m gonna go ahead and say that this the most snow I’ve ever seen in a 12 hour timeframe……easily 2-4”/hr
50 near Glenbrook had multiple active debris flows last night. Baseball to bowling ball sized boulders funneling down the slope and onto the road in a slush matrix. Took my brain a second to process wtf I was seeing. Nothing quite like seeing the earth moving in your headlights.
Lake Level Report
Just shoveled over 6" of the heaviest cement I've ever moved.
It's still puking 2"+ an hour, lots more up high. Going back and forth between huge flakes and graupel.
If you don't get ahead of it today, you're not going anywhere tomorrow.
Lifts will be completely iced up and avalanche danger will be severe.
Expect late openings tomorrow and few lifts running.
Been clearing snow all day since about 11 AM, at 5800' on the Reno side of Mt Rose highway. Changed from rain to snow around 8-9 AM, snowing steadily ever since. Estimating around a foot so far today. It just keeps coming.
Electric went out around noon. NV Energy currently predicting return around 7 pm. Pellet stove is only heat source now, running off batteries, but not bad indoors.
No idea what the roads are like. Mt Rose ski area website says they closed at 3 PM today, don't know why though.
Is 6 inches of snow every hour a lot? Wow.
Sounds like Palipne Meadows won’t open until the afternoon tomorrow.
Still puking 2"+ an hour at the lake.
Most of CA and a good chunk of NV has no power.
What Eastern Sierra Skier said. 50 is closed over Spooner Summit, so Kingsbury is your only choice. It may not stay open much longer, and it's snowing all the way down to the valley floor. It will take you at least 3 hours to get to Reno in these conditions, likely more.
I've had 8 inches of snow at 6K. In the last 1 1/2. The overall depth is maybe 2 ft today because it's compacting as it falls. Wet and heavy but it seems to be getting lighter. The power has gone out 5 times today, always less than a minute. So far.
89 is currently closed (I’m at the alpine meadows road) supposedly for a slide across the road
