Had to cancel my trip, can any of you go try a few things at Vicky’s, and tell me how it was?

Had a baller molcajete supreme out at El paisa on Sunday and watched France defeat England. Nothin better than good Mexican food and football on the big screen.
sigless.
Need a recommendation from the collective. Mid-priced (less than $30 a plate?) Euro/American cuisine type place, where I can still get a reservation for 5 for tomorrow night. Beer/wine/cocktails not important. Pretty much anywhere in the SLC valley.

$30/plate or $30/person, all in?
If the former, https://slceatery.com

I’m guessing they meant $30 all in pp, but I’ll clarify. ^^^That does look like a good option.

https://www.evaslc.com/ is great too, a bit more tapas style, but very good *its probably been 3 years at least since I've been

For $30 pp you could think about something like Goodwood BBQ in Draper.
Might be on the high end $30 per person but have you considered Cucina?

Limited menu on Fridays and Sundays…
Chef studied at Takshi. Daughter approved!

This place looks kinda interesting. Anyone been? It’s only a few miles down the road.

I thought that place looked familiar. Eating sushi at a place where I’ve been to a certain level of intoxication and questionable decisions making seems risky.

Ha ha! Agree, but I’ve come to trust Matty at the bar. He wouldn’t suggest if it were to lead to an unintended experience. Hard to tell, but the Chef is in the background, back to bar, making the rolls right there. You pay him directly by Venmo, not through the Peruvian. He’s supplying the ingredients through his contacts via Takashi - so not as sketchy as otherwise might appear… A novelty and another way to get my daughter to come up and make turns with the old man.

I think the things I’ve seen (and done) at the P Dog in the early-2000s might still be in the air there and could contaminate any fresh food they serve. Like ski bum Chernobyl
Akshually, that’s The Fort

Great few posts. Yeah, talked to Pat the door guy last night, drew was the head chef at the pdog for 13 years and is now bartending Saturdays and doing this Fridays/sundays. Excited to see how it goes!

Was at the bar last night for Stonefed and didn't see any sushi anywhere. Hard to see how Sundays is a good night for sushi with music going on but def. want to try next time I'm up there on a Friday
Agree. Was there too. The menu is pinned to the wall, below right of the TV in this pic. This was from last night and the chef is there prepping, though I left soon after the 2nd set started, so maybe didn’t start serving until 5:30 as that looks like the time on the clock…

Saw older recommendations around Cottonwood Heights - what’s good now?
Coming in on Sunday and don’t have car; getting around via Lyft or bus

Where you staying?
Options near mouth of BCC -
Near Courtyard:
Porcupine - personal favorite; tried &true, basic fare; great chicken noodle soup; good local tap selection
Eight Settlers - “newish”, opened around start of Covid. Distillery with focus on mixed drinks. Not been, but most friends suggest good, but pricey drinks. As a beer drinker been less motivated to try though I’ll get there eventually
Saola- heard great things but no personal experience.
Alpha Coffee - morning, pre-ski coffees and burritos.
Near Residence Inn/Hyatt Place by 215/6200 S exit:
Mint - decent sushi; frequent a couple times every quarter.
Bandits - traditional steak house type of place. Been some time since I’ve visited.
Hog Wallow - perhaps more “bar-like” and simpler than Porcupine but similar and an institution with live music periodically
Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar - we’ll established local group of fresh seafood and finer dining restaurants. Likely already known if you’ve been to SLC over the years. Consistent.
Cotton Bottom- revamped burger, dive bar; another institution; limited seating
Tuscany - Italian-themed finer dining restaurant. Definitely more formal and pricier than most on this list.
Franck’s - similar to Tuscany in ambiance and price points
As you move west on 7200 S / Fort Union there are a many more options but not many hotels until ~9th East so won’t go there now… lots to the north as well, but not much south except La Caille which probably doesn’t require any introduction for anyone familiar with LCC area…
