I'm sorry but you lost all credibility with that one, unless by "good food" you mean "nubile young 19 year old waitresses who wear short skirts"

What can I say, I live south a few miles. When it opened in ‘97 it was the closest watering hole to my house and have been going since. I’ve come to know many of the staff over the decades and it was my go-to place while the kids were young…

    Near Courtyard:

Porcupine - personal favorite; tried &true, basic fare; great chicken noodle soup; good local tap selection

Eight Settlers - “newish”, opened around start of Covid. Distillery with focus on mixed drinks. Not been, but most friends suggest good, but pricey drinks. As a beer drinker been less motivated to try though I’ll get there eventually

Saola- heard great things but no personal experience.

Alpha Coffee - morning, pre-ski coffees and burritos.

Near Residence Inn/Hyatt Place by 215/6200 S exit:

Mint - decent sushi; frequent a couple times every quarter.

Bandits - traditional steak house type of place. Been some time since I’ve visited.

Hog Wallow - perhaps more “bar-like” and simpler than Porcupine but similar and an institution with live music periodically

Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar - we’ll established local group of fresh seafood and finer dining restaurants. Likely already known if you’ve been to SLC over the years. Consistent.

Cotton Bottom- revamped burger, dive bar; another institution; limited seating

Tuscany - Italian-themed finer dining restaurant. Definitely more formal and pricier than most on this list.

Franck’s - similar to Tuscany in ambiance and price points

As you move west on 7200 S / Fort Union there are a many more options but not many hotels until ~9th East so won’t go there now… lots to the north as well, but not much south except La Caille which probably doesn’t require any introduction for anyone familiar with LCC area…

Thanks! Will be Hyatt Place. My kid likes but doesn’t demand good food. Easy to travel with.

It wasn't that long ago it actually WAS some of the best (mid-priced) food around. They didn't change but the restaurant choices sure did.

For Tacos, this is a short drive form the mouth of BCC

    Faciltaqueria.com

Everything I've tried is good there but I'll say the Nashville Hot Chicken tacos are massive and tasty

Ate there in August. Nice building but the food and service sucked. 2/10, not recommended with prejudice.

Have also heard good but expensive cocktails, the straight boozes they make were not good, and the food was meh at best.

I've had some good ones at Water Witch, Beehive distilling, etc. the key is to find places that utilize 2nd alcohol's as flavorings.

This is really the only (or best) answer in the thread, but I'll give a shout-out to Copper Commons, Whitehorse, and Rest as runner-ups. Whitehorse is my favorite.

Yes, as long as total alcohol content per drink doesn't exceed 2.5 ounces.

Which makes ordering a big stirred drinks like a Negroni or Manhattan bullshit in Utah. You better believe they’re charging you like it’s the original spec.

With that in mind, I am real curious to see how the new tiki place in Sugarhouse makes something like a fogcutter. Their online menu is frustratingly opaque.

Pouring drinks this way is not normal. I’d love to see a list of bars that maximize your drink. Without high volume through the doors, this isn’t the way a bar makes money. The liquor markup is unreal. MD9 figured it out though.

Saw an out of town guy order a martini in SLC a few years back. $13, came in a real-sized martini glass, but was an ounce and a half. He was so pissed. Free dinner entertainment for me and the lady.

Well, this sucks. Ski bus route 953 not operating because UTA can’t hire people. Guess I’ll get a car and check out some other places, too.

“The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is experiencing staffing shortages and hiring challenges like many other businesses and transit agencies across the nation.

As a result of this ongoing shortage, specifically related to bus operators, UTA is making several emergency bus service adjustments on the December 11th Change Day, impacting Weber, Davis and Salt Lake counties, as well as service to Summit County.”

I happen to be a fan. Their nachos are top notch finger food after a long tour. The $7.50 Budlight was shocking however.

Something to ponder, and tie into the Wasatch thread, perhaps we do a monthly(more/less frequent?) meet-up at various ski related/supported establishments. Takes the pressure off TFW or others (wasn’t able to make the recent mag get together) for hosting and creates a routine mags can join throughout the year and without a lot pomp and circumstance??

For example- Jan at PDog, Feb at new Tram Bar, Mar at ?? Squirrel bar or Molly’s, etc? Could do more than one and eventually work through the valley??

Missed this but Great Wall Chinese at Chinatown on State!

Also, if your Chinese restaurant isn't open on Christmas you shouldn't be eating there.

I literally took pictures of this to send to my family haha. How to know if you're eating at a real Chinese restaurant - Panda Express vs. a Taiwanese bakery in CA:
