FWIW, the charge on mine lasts many months. I was camping last month and my battery died (I think I left an interior light on all weekend). Pulled out the jump starter that hadn't been charged in many many months, and boom! Jump started.

They also double as a great charging block for devices when camping.

Seriously, every car should have one. The devices the m-series linked don't handle the random time when your battery dies, those only work when you know you need to cut power to the battery, like long term travel. But shit happens, your kid turns the interior light on, or the battery is on its last legs and you haven't yet realized it, whatever, the jump starter takes care of it. And even if a car jump is readily available, sometimes you're parked in a location where it's really hard to get another car next to you.

Worth mentioning in this heated debate that the rights to a song and the rights to a particular recorded version of a song are not always owned by the same entity. Maybe the artitst who wrote it owns the song but the record company owns the recorded version. Anyway if we're going to get pissed off about music being stolen maybe young white musicians getting ripped off by a car company isn't the best subject for our indignation.

I’ve got a Gooloo 4000 and it does indeed stay charged for months and it jumps big vehicles on the first try. Definitely recommend. In fact I just looked and it’s currently on sale at Amazon for 109. That’s a great price for this unit.

2 situations where i've run into battery cutoff switches were on a chevy van with a wheel chair ramp set up for a parapalegic and an international box van with a reefer unit

The para setup is unusual with interlocks and switches but there must be millions of cube delivery vans with a reefer, however the extra equipment was wired in it would kill the battery so the easy fix was to disconnect the battery

I hated that international, no AC and no suspension on forestry roads

I'm with Danno. Those car starting batteries are amazing. Mine was like $50 or less at Costco.

The one I have cost $70, and jumps my 4.7L 8cyl engine. These things are not that expensive. And if you use it once, it has paid for itself in time and stress saved (and money saved if you don't have AAA or similar).

    FIFY

But she charges it religiously so I don’t have to worry yet about it not being charged when I need it.

Wife’s company just gave her one of these as an appreciation gift. They give useful gifts there.

I had to use mine to jump a car the other day. It hadn't been used or charged in over a year and worked perfectly.

Yup, I have the same one. It lives in my truck, should start anything short of a diesel.

A battery cut off switch in a modern car is just a solution in search of problems IMO.

I mean... I was downtown all of about 15 minutes getting new bike pedals and hitting the credit union and *two* of those fucksticks almost got pancaked by my giant truck. And the pedestrians... well, they don't give a fuck about lights or anything like that. Just wander across the road 'cause they gotta get wherever they're going.

    Goddam.

    X2.
Impulse buy at Costco. Good insurance.
Also when the dealer/jiffy lube/etc tell you it’s time for a new battery and you call bullshit, but secretly remember it’s beca good time to make sure that jumper thing is charged up!

We've discussed this before. VT is home to the 40 MPHer. They do 40 no matter the posted limit. It's like they have the cruise control on or only one gear.

Or because you are a retired farmer and forget you're not driving a tractor.
