In somewhat related news, the EU is now suggesting bringing back travel restrictions on American tourists: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ew-covid-cases

Sounds like it's up to the individual nations and it will most likely affect unvaccinated travelers.

He's goofy and a better leader would be welcome. Who do you recommend as his replacement? Ahhhh, there's the problem.

You paint a vast picture- but the image you paint is fictitious just like your idealisms on many realisms.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control urges Americans to ‘reconsider’ travel to Canada

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/cana...l-to/#comments

I thought the travel thing to Canada was couldn't do it do to high rates in mexico. Looked it up and not the case. mex rates low ~ Canada. Way lower than US.

I remember when Teamdirt posted some sweet pow video years back. Something about landscaping all summer, hanging christmas lights in the fall. It was a good clip. Didn't know those were the prerequisites for immunology. I got my degree from Arizona State so it's not very good, wishing I had just mowed the lawn and learned the truth.

Can confirm. I got the Nth degree northbound, nothing more than a yawn and a 'move along' on the way back.

Also, at the risk of perpetuating stereotypes, is there a little bad blood now that the border situation has changed? I got immediately brake checked on two separate occasions passing through Burnaby and Surrey. No offense I could think of but my WA plates. Sorry about my ongoing existence, eh?

I'd imagine that will happen a bit more now. We're back to essential travel within our own country so it might rub people the wrong way having foreigners thinking its fine to have less responsibility than us in our own country

    there you go

The U.S. State Department is now urging Americans to “reconsider travel” to Canada due to what the Centers for Disease Control call “high” levels of COVID-19 infection.

The new Level 3 travel advisory, issued today, marks a quick end to a three-week period when the warning to would-be travellers to Canada had been eased to “exercise increased caution.”

That Level 2 advisory coincided with Canada’s decision to allow fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents back into the country.

There was no specific reason given for the revised advisory beyond the CDC’s notice, also issued today, which pegs Canada’s current COVID-19 levels at “high.”

Only about 61 per cent of eligible Americans are fully vaccinated, compared with nearly 75 per cent of Canadians over the age of 12.

The U.S. is maintaining its existing restrictions on non-essential Canadian travellers until at least Sept. 21, citing the ongoing spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

So it's risky for a 100% vaccinated subpopulation with negative tests to visit a 75% vaccinated population with a lower disease prevalence than the subpopulations home population of 61% vaccinated. Thanks Mr. Travel Advisory Man!

At least my area is 85% vaccinated (of eligible).

Canada Closed until US Gets Covid 19 Under Control

I just did a 5 day trip to Revelstoke from Bellingham. Proof of a negative Covid test in the last 72 hours along with proof of being fully vaccinated and having the travel Canada app info submitted is Required for driving into Canada. They are checking all of those documents.

On top of that they are randomly selecting people to do an additional Covid test upon entering. It’s a bit overkill IMOp if your fully vaccinated but that’s the current rules.

Upon returning to the us there is no Covid questions / requirements at all if you are a us citizen.

We didn’t see a single non Canadian plate the entire trip. So not many are crossing.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I read an article today that equated the northern border closure with the southern border closure. The US government doesn't want two sets of rules to confuse anyone so the border North stays closed until they can figure out new Mexico rules. The Mexico border is all fucked up beyond Covid so this may take awhile.
