    Except his definition wasn't correct.

It's not "attacking character", it's "to the person" as opposed to "to the point".

Just about every stupid question asked can be answered with goggle

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

"Personal attack" redirects here. For the Wikipedia policy, see Wikipedia:No personal attacks.

Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem, refers to several types of arguments, some but not all of which are fallacious. Typically this term refers to a rhetorical strategy where the speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself. This avoids genuine debate by creating a diversion to some irrelevant but often highly charged issue. The most common form of this fallacy is "A makes a claim x, B asserts that A holds a property that is unwelcome, and hence B concludes that argument x is wrong".

If I drive it’s 1800 miles round trip. IRS rate of $0.58 gets it to $1,050 or so. BUT I could pack PB and J (cheaper for you, and I don’t mind a good PB and J) so it’s only a couple hundred bucks extra. BUT that’s 30 hours of my life gone.

We still haven’t fully discussed whatever lodging accommodations you can scrounge up. I’ll accept a nicely appointed guest bedroom.

In either case, not sure what your time is worth, but I’ll have minimum 16 hours invested (I like to ski, even icy death chutes, so I’m not counting that time or time when I’m not actively traveling, per FLSA guidance). My time is worth more than $65/hour. This pot will need to be sweeter (venue or more $$$) to make me bite, or I’ll just hop on a shorter plane to some place whose primary feature isn’t a 135 degree icy death chute. Like Utah. Crowd sourced funding is acceptable.
Don’t forget about all the negative Covid tests and/or the 14 day/7 day quarantines......lol. VT is still in “lockdown”.....you might need to wait till 2025...haha.

The TL;DR version is something like: Bushwhacker will pay you $1000 to lurk in his eastern poop chute of death if you dolphin turn with your poles strapped on. Or strapped off. I'm not sure. And do lurks have straps?
Oh goodness no, it's so much more than that. Ala Princess Bride, let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

Bushwacker seems to have started a thread aimed at driving hits to a video he made about how awesome detachable pole straps are, because he asserts you can't ski right without pole straps and using pole straps could hurt you if you get a pole caught in a tree. Pole straps were debated and found wanting. The best reason for straps anyone could come up with was skating, and new technique was taught to eliminate that need. New consensus: pole straps suck and should all be burned like witches in Monty Python. My personal views on pole straps may or may not have colored that part of the summation.

Side note: 8 year-olds carrying their skis Texas-suitcase style up the Highlands hike were determined to be boss moves and the only good use of pole straps.

There are now a few videos of an apparently nearly impossible-to-ski death chute in Vermont or Nova Scotia or something with Bush skiing it, and several declarations from Bush that essentially no maggots can ski it besides him and a couple other crunchy Vermont guys. Apparently the chute responds well to granola or something. Unclear.

Some Mags may or may not have been offended by the tone of the videos and posts. Bush was accused of double pole planting by Mustonen, which resulted in Bush challenging him to a duel, feats of strength. and a battle of wits. Sorry, nope, Princess Bride again. Ski off. SKI OFF. Bush offered Mustonen $1,000 if he could ski the chute. Mustonen is trying to decide if he wants to do that since it doesn't really cover expenses, apparently. Others are trying to get in on the action without success. I think SoVTJoey is angling for $37 or something. But apparently, according to Bush, SoVTJoey declined the offer so maybe this chute is more gnar than it appears.

Ok, I'm getting fuzzy again. Let's see... Dee Hubbs gave everyone some lessons in math, which I fear I did not score well on. Through that process, it was determined that the chute is between 35 and 135 ... something. Either slope or degrees. Not sure. Bush says he makes it look flatter cause he actually knows what he's doing.

Then there was some bullshit about freedom units and beer. Also there was a short snippet about the Rontele crew's exploits.

Bush has threatened to sue TGR to dox people. I understand the server room has lawyered up. Also, apparently Bush owes someone $50 for something. Bacon maybe? Skis? Apparently it was like 10 years ago so it's now $357,783 with interest.

Bush thanked Dee and Must for defending him, which confused the shit out of me. I thought I knew how to read. Guess not. Pfluffenmeister wants everyone to know that YOU CANNOT DEFEAT HIS SNAKE STYLE and bennymac wants to know HOW CAN HE BE COMPENSATED. Acid was discussed and - praise Jesus - ski-offs seem to be on the rise. Damn - I almost forgot, Bush says he skis 140 days per year, squats 400lbs, leg presses 700lbs and has 30" thighs. Seems pertinent. Those are impressive numbers all around.

Ad Hominem was defined but I'm still too dumb to understand. Also, something about a dolphin in a $135 helmet which is somewhat confusing. Also, to personally editorialize, as someone who skis out west in places where there are things like rocks and drop-offs and cliffs and places with names like Body Bag Chute, I cannot understand what is so enticing or difficult about this Long Trail Chute thing in the video, but to be fair I have hit my head hard enough to crack my helmet in half so I am, I understand, what they call an "unreliable narrator." Which seems rude to me, but whatever.

Finally, I'd like to personally thank everyone involved for all the entertainment and pulling back into the fold a number of long lost mags. Great result. This thread has apparently returned us to the golden age of TGR. Also, candlesticks make a nice present.

    Did I get everything?

Damn, go skiing for a couple of days and you get WAY behind...

So, where do things sit with this challenge? No way I want to step in front of VTjoey or Mustonen, but if they are out, there’s about 10 mags in OR ready to take up the challenge of your 45* coulior of death.

And if you allow kids on this challenge, there’s a 16yo boy and a 16yo girl (spawn of maggots), and three 9yos that jonesy & I coach who would shred this 25* brush run with steeze.

And at the end one of the 9yos would say to you “We came all the way here for this? That’s a green run at Hoodoo. I can’t believe you’re an instructor.”

    On to logistics...
In an effort to be financially efficient a charter flight would be the best. Flight would depart PDX with a pickup in Bend (RDM) then on to Burlington(?). Return in reverse. We would arrive late afternoon the day before, and leave approx 5pm next day. Midweek is definitely preferred.

    We would also need:
    - ground transport between airport and $$teaux, as well as between hotel and lifts.
    - hotel for 10 adults and five kids for one night. The two 9yo boys could share a room, the two girls and the adults would need single accommodations.
    - meals for same. Figure dinner the night before, breakfast & lunch day of.
    - lift tickets

In the interest of cost, the adults will forgo their $1000/head award for skiing the Chute of Doom. The all expense paid trip and the video rights of this event will be sufficient. We can negotiate a reasonable award for the kids.

We will need to own all of the rights to video, other images, audio or written descriptions of this adventure.

With or without pole straps attached is your call but we will not double pole plant or sit in the backseat (like in your video) under any circumstances.

And we will carry our own insurance and thus not expect compensation for injury or abrasions. That brush looks like it could leave a mark...

    We await your reply.

And my inbounds mogul-length daily drivers, Scott rental stock, RED 50”s cut to 43”, shaved down for weight, with a pair of 1980s rental grips and death-straps I cut into a shape I liked 25 years ago and then put those grips and straps on every pair of my daily driver poles since...the cut marks have been smoothed by thousands and thousands of hours of use. The midsized baskets are enough to get by in soft snow and not so much that I lose that moguly quick flicky feel I’ve come to enjoy.

Seems like this just needs to be declared a maggot summit. The Death Chute Invitational?

All mags are welcome. Few will survive.

This isn't really a concern. Ski the 135 degree death chute first, and then you can quarantine in the hospital while laid up after attempting to slay the gnar.

Also, the golden days of TGR simply must extend to at least 2012. Three words: Gaper Spirit Animal.
