So, the government does ask people to self isolate if you've had close contact, that's what happened to me. I was asymptomatic. Because of the nature of my job I wanted to know if I was positive or negative, as a base line, since I had been living with someone what was unaware that they had covid for a number of weeks. As a health care provider I can work even in quarantine so long as I am asymptomatic I am good to go. I knew they wouldn't test me so I lied and told them I had symptoms and got tested. Here is the rub. The PHSA will test anyone with symptoms. If you are in quarantine and you develop symptoms you can go and get tested. They will not test you if you do not have symptoms because you could get tested one day and be negative and the next day you could have an onset of symptoms.
Yah, I totally get it. There are people in the valley and in BC that get worked up over red plates. Fuck em.
At the same time, there are quite a few in the valley that use red plates with PO boxes or addresses in Alberta due to our incredibly expensive insurance rates. Not to mention the many, many hundreds of houses/condo's etc that are owned by people from all over Canada, but predominately Albertans who roll in on days off.
I'd certainly feel safer coming to an area that has a lower rate of Covid cases then staying in an area with higher numbers. I'm lucky that I am living in that area and that there is skiing.
There are certainly more cars from AB,SK,ON,QC than I would normally see mid week at the hill. Numbers are most certainly up. Doesn't bother me personally. Just do what we are asked to do by our elected officials and the medical professionals that they/we are trusting and relying on.
There are people I know personally who bitch about Albertans who originally came from AB and made the move to Fernie. Last time I checked we are Canadian and the CDN government and provincial governments (aside from the Atlantic bubble) has not blocked borders.
People are stressed out, if skiing and MTB brings solace, then I am all for it. This is not new, this summer was the busiest ever on the trail networks in the valley for MTB's.
Fuck the people who make judgements about plates, they have no idea what and or why someone is in BC. I doubt your vehicle would ever be vandalized and i further doubt anyone would even look sideways at you with whatever plate you have on your vehicle and if they do, pay no mind. We also don't know their motivations....
Maybe we should remind ourselves of what Dr Bonnie Henry has been saying, what is it? "Be calm, be kind, be safe."
I am down with a tailgate sesh. You wear a mask I wear a mask and we social distance. All this is, is an inconvenience. Seriously though, this is fascinating, we are living through a world wide pandemic...
