I didn't want to fuck up the other thread so posting my shit here. I don't think it's going to be the party that I was expecting / hoping for.

Booked a package through Expedia. Been on the phone for 3 hours today. I can change to November but the changes will cost the same fucking price as the original trip.

I paid, $1,300 all in for 2 of us. Flights and hotel.

To push it back a few weeks will cost $1,100.

WWMD? How grim will it be in 36 hours time?

I realize people have lost lives, family, friends etc. I'd be happy to eat a few hundred but $1,100? That hurts.

Not really, don't be such a drama queen. It has its place for about 48 hours. I usually just end up there because of work but there are pockets that can be pretty great if you know where to find them. Obviously I'd rather be on my skis or bike climbing a mountain but whatever.

Agreed. My vote would be to still go. If the city turns out to be a real downer then rent a car and head out into nature. In addition to ml242's suggestions I recommend Valley of Fire State Park. That's what I'd do anyway, but I recognize some people actually like being in Vegas!

Dim sum around Spring Mountain. Just my $.02.
Strangely, all of these are true.

One of my brothers lives there, so I have a non-"Vegas" reason for going, and if you avoid the hordes on the strip and the "as seen on TV" restaurants and pawn shop, there is an actual town with real people. Good Mexican, seedy steak houses, dive bars...

No. That's just the pool at the Aria.

Not sure what hotel that is on the background, not Mandalay Bay though.

Yeah, a bunch of heartless bastards too busy to grieve

Life goes on, have a good time. LV sucks, but there are pockets of good (strip clubs????), but the best is out of town as has been noted.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I ain't got no shame in my Vegas hate. Vegas and Trump, can't say I hate much else. And there's a strong crossover blend of those two, isn't there?

Hit some of the shows. Where else will you see something like Le Reve.

If your in your mid 20s like me Vegas has some of the best clubs in the world. I go there just for that. Some of those clubs are incredible. Not much else fun to do on the strip besides that though

I'm a Vegas Strip hater. Went a few times with old friends back in the day after the first couple of times blah...never again. Those guys still go all the time...no longer friends with most of them. Vegas divides?

Won a trip once at work. Checked into hotel on strip then promptly drove to Mammoth and Death Valley mid winter. Ski, hike with wife. Drove back to Vegas slept in strip room the last night to catch the free flight home. Great way to work a Vegas package.

I thought Vegas was awesome in my 20s and 30s, but it's really lost its appeal as I've gotten older. If they banned all indoor smoking that would certainly make it much better. I just can't stand that shit anymore.

Funny how love it or hate it Vegas is. Personally I had a great time last time I was there, but I'm a notoriously cheap gambler and am pretty well behaved. I had fun just eating, going to shows, and hitting up dive bars off the strip. Didn't spend much at all. Hope to go back someday for another cheap weekend of moderate fun.
