You have absolutely no experience with people who work for NGOs in Africa (or elsewhere,) have you?

Let's just say it's not the cushiest job. Try reversing your numbers (40 hours work for 20 hours pay) and you'll be closer to the truth. The only people living large are the top management folks who get decent money because otherwise they'd work in Banking or Consulting, or the trustees who make their money elsewhere.

It's several years of fundraising for a horrible disease in a few months = win. And people having fun with it.
You must have missed the lengthy thread here where all the TGR groupthink geniuses determined it's not bro-brah enough if you wash your car. Only a fool would bother taking care of a piece of machinery that cost you thousands by keeping it clean.

I'd find it for you but it's more effective to bang pans together screaming out the name of the thread title than it is using the search function.
I still call it The Jake.

It's probably next to the thread where they discuss $200 2014 ski storage solutions. Because 2005's ski storage technology just hasn't kept up with modern world!

I'd guess the corner of the garage cost about $200 if you include the roof and floor, if you include the breaker box that's a few feet away it's gotta be over 200

Sure it's not a cushy job in the trenches, but who puts together little pic dissing one charity that is having some unexpected success to promote theirs? My charity money goes to our local Community Fund which helped me in 01 when I bounced off a tree after a binding failure.
The 6 figure "administration cocktail party" bs is why I never give to mainstream charities.

People who possibly volunteer, but don't actually work in the field. You know -- assholes.

I read that thread and if you want your rig to look like dirty pos all the time, what do I care, mine will last longer and washing the truck is a good way to unwind after work some nights. Just had some folks comment last week, who I am building a house for, "your truck always looks so clean."

They are a growing nuisance, especially inside the Beltway, where I live and work.

Heh. Sometimes it feels that way, but there are some good people in this town, and actually an influx of younger ones too. Unfortunately many of those (some of whom post on here) get beaten down by the poseurs and leave.

As you know every place has its share of dickheads (your experiences in the DC, LA, Bay, and Seattle areas are proof) but DC seems to attract them like a Mosquito magnet. Manhattan and the LA West Side do too, I'm sure.

it comes back to PJ O'Rourke - DC is hollywood for ugly people. Ugly, "rich", herd creatures.

these days I think most of the white people doing charity work, unless they are jeebus nuts, are overpaid. Certainly saw many of them, and even more so their spoiled bitch wives cruising in Land Cruisers, or there fat fucking asses getting drunk in the pool at noon. Some of them were also DC shits. All the while in some bizarre bwana legacy they bossed around a bunch of locals who were smarter, more motivated, knew what the fuck was going on,but had the wrong skin color - and most important - didn't have that Ivy degree to please the fucksticks in DC (or Seattle, the gates tards)

    .
I enjoyed my time in dc, for the record. The commute to outdoor recreation from wards 5 or 6 sucks. Otherwise no complaints.

The people I've known who have worked in foreign aid or diplomacy are genuinely good folks who bust their asses. But most were young civil servants who lived in middle class parts of the city. Political appointees and Beltway bandits in McLean weren't generally in my social circle, but I'm sure that plenty of them are first rate cunts. A rat race where that constitutes winning ultimately didn't interest me. I dunno. Just a different rat race now. Everywhere is.

Places like Africa need money a lot more than they need volunteers on the ground. The death toll from Ebola, for example, would be a lot less if they had stuff like enough IV fluid, liquid high quality diets, hazmat suits, etc, etc. The people who sit in offices in DC raising money and arranging for shit to get over there are doing good--who cares if they're safe and comfortable? As an example the organization that pulled it's medical folks out of Liberia in part because of a lack of protective suits went to Americares to get the money for supplies.

Anyway, dumping ice water on your head for ALS makes more sense than sending money to a clueless couple on a surfing vacation in South America, IMHO.

I agree. My ex brother in law died last October from ALS. He was like a brother to me for over 20 years. It fries me to see congressmen like Paul Ryan who has consistently voted against the science that will ultimately cure these types of degenerative diseases, take the challenge. No sense of irony.

Additionally, the wife and I didn't enjoy the table of 6 that were sharing their favorite ice bucket challenges at the table while we ate. Rude.

and the C&O canal is a nice spot to ride bikes.

and dumping icewater on celebrity's (bonus points for scantily clad!) is great for raising awareness to fucking idiots. At least until the next hot-awesome comes along. Ooohhh it's a Harlem Shake video!

It's mind blowing how one can possibly justify impeding life saving research based upon such archaic outdated beliefs. Sad and sorry about your BIL.

That fail compilation just makes me scared to go drive my car (or ride a bike) on public roads. Goddamn there are some stupid, uncoordinated people out there.
