helping a buddy mount his skis
where should we mount his Axl's?
Pins on chord center?
or
Boot center at ski center?
He's old school like me and is used to the former, but I'm recommending the latter.

Those are a lot like my Billygoats. I mounted my Bishop plates so the front position is boot center and the rearward is -2cm. I ended up moving them back almost immediately. Any ski with early rise and funky sidecut seems to 'wash out' too easily if you mount them too far back.
It takes a second to get used to but boot center takes advantage of the skis shape, pinline made more sense when skis had tons of camber.
If your friend has stiff boots and is willing to shorten up his stance a tad there is no contest that boot center is the way to roll.
Telebootcenter (middle of the boot minus the duckbill) on the alpine center mark.

Recommended on PBJs is -4.5cm.....I wished I had mounted mine at -1 (for alpine).

That will make no sense to a guy used to pins on chord center. -4.5 from tip to tail straight pull off of center or recommended line?, -4.5 from topsheet pull? - 1 from recommended boot center line? Wtf?
You're dealing with a bunch of Yeti's, and I still can't visualize where you even mounted your binders, and I'm Yeti +1.

Agreed......
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Hi,
Sorry.
-4.5cm back from center on a tip to tail straight pull is where I mounted.....I think it was +0.5 or +1 from rec. If doing it again I would go back 1cm from the rec mount point. Moments recommended points (the little triangle on side of ski) are good.....though on the PBJs and Deathwishes I wish I had mounted a the spot back 1 cm from that little triangle.

Moment sez dis:
Put tele boot center 2cm back from Alpine boot center. Alpine boot center is the large center triangle on the left sidewall of each ski.

Ya so at -2cm you would be 1 cm back of where I wanted to be....do it!

So go -1 whole cm and all will be right in the world. I mean, how much could 100mm really change someone's life experience?
Oh, I should ask KK ;?)
Don't worry, it's all alright. I don't understand how folks can really stress too hard about it, but general mounting is a legit question.
"Do as I say, not as I do". Although I have my Deathwish's mounted on the line and I don't really think that is going to be the thing I'm pointing to when I ski like shit.

10cm counts! Trust me...
I just didn't want to mount my bro's skis w/o asking him where he wanted them. And he wasn't quite sure. He's going from way older skis to way new schooler skis and I didn't want to presume to tell him what to do. He's a better skier than me. If he went to a shop and dropped his shit off and said "Mount these." the shop might or might not ask him where to mount them. He probably wouldn't ask and he probably wouldn't know the difference. He'd be stoked on a new rig either way. But he's got me for a buddy and all of you bitchez I can bounce these questions off, so I just go ahead and fire one out there.
I think we've come to a consensus, but I'm not sure what it is.
All I know is that I am going to mount them on the top.
Grab the ski, grab your T-square, consume mass quantities. Measure .9876 times, grab IPA, measure .432 times.
Take the boot, minus the daffy duck, cut in half, position on boot center on ski. Arrange -1cm from said point. Don't even think of going a picometer forward or back. Measure .100123 times, get lines straight, consume IPA, and DRILL BABY DRILL!
You will be a fucking patriot, and help our economy, and hopefully your bud will reimburse you for the IPA's.
