    Boston area thule rack thieves

    GFY!

Entire Thule rack system and all its parts, along with two universal bike racks, stolen 10 ft in front of my house. All parts were locked. Looking back in the police log this is the 3rd such pilferage I can find reported in since Saturday. Salem MA.

there are a shit ton of those people that walk by my house each day, not sure they possess the mechanical abilities to remove one though...I guess there is always the wand thing.

That sucks. I've had a bike stolen off of a rack (my fault for leaving it on there for the two minutes I was gone) but never the actual rack. I've got some of the older square load-bars that I'll give you if it will help. They were on an older Ford Explorer.

thanks man, that would be great. Let me see if I can find some feet to fit them. Mine are/were square too.

When I had Thule stuff on my old jeep, I came out one morning to find screw driver marks and bent plastic where they tried to pry the locks off.

I have a lot of older Thule stuff; bars, feet, bike trays/mounts, locks/keys, a couple of fairings I think, etc. You're welcome to come over and take what you want. None of it fits the audi factory bars I have now.

2nd mate... I have about four old racks and many parts and am in the Boston area. I'd love to clear out my garage/shop and help if I can.

Devo and Bern, looks like we should have a 2nd Mate rack summit somewhere... beers and thule parts fest!

If you bring your gun, we can have it at my place and you can "pay" me by shooting our resident garden killing woodchuck.

Sucks. Sounds like someone got their hands on a master key (they're not terribly difficult to find)

Word to the (un?) wise, if you work in a long-standing Thule or Yak. shop, every key combination ever made is probably in a bin in the back. Not to mention skeleton keys. They don't make that many. Lock up by other means.

How old are the thule attachments? Unless they're ancient, they should fit on your audi x-bars just fine. Anything with a clamp grip will grab around the bars, and I dunno if you bought your x-rails new, but if you did, remember
the rubber strip that you inserted in the top? Remove the rubber strip, and you can mount the old style attachments in that slot.

The good news is that the thule/yak keys won't fit your crossbar locks!

That isn't a "master" key. It is a "change" key. One comes with every lock. They are used to insert into a lock (once it is unlocked) to remove it from the housing. A change key will not unlock any lock.

Just returned from the Police Station(2nd time today.) Alleged criminal is no longer in possession of my shit, the police are. They are also in possession of his car. Apparently the keys I gave them worked and they just wanted me to see it as well. The person under arrest thought it would be fine to post my shit up for sale on craigslist....in the town it was stolen in. I suspect they got him for theft as well as selling stolen good to a detective.

Thank you all for the offers on parts and stuff. Please come to Salem and have free beers. I am available from 0600-1700++ Monday through Friday.

I didn't know you were around here on land-ho. And hot-damn the people in this shitty are retarded. I bet I could tell you the suspect's address within a 4 block radius.

I'm going back out to Stellwagen this weekend, I'll look your monkey ass up.

Reminds me of a book I read as a kid, the stainless steel rat. He wants to be a master criminal so he purposely fucks up and gets arrested so he can go to jail and learn...only to realize all the dumbass stupid shitbags are in prison. Good read in about an hour. Glad you got your stuff back.
