Locations: Kirkwood, Northstar, Squaw, Mt. Tam, Stinson Beach, Academy of Sciences, Pacific Crest Snowcats, Oahu, Lanai, and some more Kirkwood.



Weather: January thaw to 3 meter mega storms to sunny Hawaii

Synopsis:

Here comes another major photoblog to make my cameras feel useful. From the epic heat to epic cold snowfalls, to teaching your kid how to ski, to roaming the Hawaiian Islands, to skiing pow with your friends, to roaming Redwoods at the Pacific Ocean.

What better way to spend a Sunday than taking your kid on his first chairlift session on a sunny Kirkwood day…



Oh yeah, first time on Chair 9 baby!



We’re both pretty stoked…



‘Dad, I want to go in there!’....’Ummm, son, its frozen solid’….’I don’t care.’



‘Yep, that’s right, I fucking killed chairs 7 & 9, and no, I didn’t ski in these sweats, keep walking….’

January 29th, 2011:

Next, we headed up to Squaw and Northstar…as luck would have it, it ended up snowing a foot or so after the heat wave….



I can do this…



Faster please….



Mom, bearing child, takes some turns with BOTH kids….

January 30th, 2011:

Squallywood…after the great warm January of 2011

February 1st-7th, 2011:

Took a commercial airline to Hawaii. Oahu to be exact. This is how to travel with kids…



Here’s some shots above Lani Kai beach…

I fell down in there….only suffered a broken brain.

We then spent a few days soaking in the sun on Lane Meyer’s home island, Lanai. Here’s a sunset.

February 13th, 2011:

Back in the Bay, the wife and I go for a hike near SF…



Yes, I fell off that ladder…

Finally made it out of the forest, but a storm is brewing….



February 16th – 21st:

It begins….



Very close to snow in San Francisco…



Dblatto said it was snowing in Napa…here’s proof:

My car really wanted to drive on the groomer, so we left early…

After being shuttled through to Silver Lake over the Spur, this guy couldn’t find his keys…gosh.



Pleasant surroundings…



Avoiding traffic, 666 took three major bridges to get home…



The next morning, it was chilly but crisp…



Kinda weird to see snow when you wake up in SF….



We then headed to the Academy of Sciences in GG Park, this cheetah’s meal was interrupted by my son banging on the window…

February 24th – February 27th, 2011:

666 takes a nap after the long drive to Crystal Bay from SF with DaveP…



We awoke to find out it barely snowed in the 4 hours that we were asleep…



Driving around Truckee was fun..



Yay, time to go skiing…



With all these jokers? Ugh….



Due to safe snow travel techniques, it was hard to take pics, so here are some POV stills…

Lots of snow even for 120mm underfoot…



But still deep…



The next morning, the storm cleared…



Tallac looked orgasmic…



The Cirque looked even better…



But then it got a tad windy…
