    TR: Gunsight-Alta, UT 8/16

Going for my first 12 month consecutive ski year. Ticked August off the list on Saturday skiing Gunsight. It was skiing and it was fun.

    Looking steep and deep:

    I got extreme:

    Keeping it tight:

What a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon. No chance on gunsight for September unless Ullr has something to do with it. Looks like it'll be Timp to link the two seasons together.

Anyone have any idea of what the timp snowfield looks like, these days? Maybe some recent pictures? The snow is getting more scarce and harder to get to in Idaho...

Timp looked to have plenty of snow from across the valley (silver lake) this weekend.

well damn, that a big pile of the white stuff unlike gunsight which is merely a gorilla finger on Alta's mirror. How's the hike in? Never been up Timp before.

Starting from Aspen Grove (above Sundance) it's a solid 4 hours to the snow. Count on 5 to the saddle above that snowfield.

The hike is straight forward and you'll get plenty of "are you going skiing?" looks and questions. There will be a huge runnel right in the middle of that snowfield from hikers sliding down it as a way of descending. It'll look like a luge course but straighter.

    Enjoy!
